In other news, former Select Benghazi Committee chairman and current Oversight Committee chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) has announced that he won't run for reelection this year. Rep. Bob Brady (R-PA) is also retiring. That's 35 House Republicans leaving office.

Meanwhile, the European Union as rejected a post-Brexit free trade deal for the financial services sector because Britain can't have its cake and eat it too.

Officials from the European Union’s executive told British financiers in meetings in recent weeks they won’t agree to a deal that would allow finance companies to operate in each others’ markets without barriers because Britain has said it will leave the single market, according to two people who attended the meetings. [...]

EU officials are dismissive of any trade models that would see Britain retain similar levels of market access while leaving the single market regime.

Finally, Bloomberg reports that Trump's immigration crackdown is prompting an increasing number of dairy farmers to replace immigrants with robots, not Americans. Also, the robots are apparently better anyway.

In a popular model, cows walk up to a stall to get milked whenever they want, and one robot handles around 60 a day. Mechanization is showing up in other ways, too, with mobile robots pushing feed and cleaning up after animals. [...]

Cows often like the robot way of life. The animals gain some autonomy and aren’t interrupted by human beings all the time, said Matt Gould, the Philadelphia-based editor for the Dairy & Food Market Analyst newsletter. More natural cow behavior starts to emerge in the herd, for example, they’ll start licking each other.

Josh Folts, owner of Folts Farms LLC, in North Collins, New York, started his dairy farm from scratch two years ago, and has two milking robots that milk 120 cows. It cost him $400,000 to put in, but now, with the help of the robots, the farm produces more milk that’s higher quality than average because the cows are less stressed, he said.

I suppose I have to agree with the Cows. Humans are very annoying and stressful.

I can’t help but wonder what is it that R’s are running from. Trey Gowdy is from what I would assume is a safe district for a Republican. Are they honestly afraid they’ll not be reelected or is it something more? Are they afraid that if they stay too long they’ll end up enabling and covering up for Trump to the point of actually committing a crime? Or are they simply cashing out?

Trump’s voters voted to screw themselves so bad it would be hilarious if the rest of us weren’t living with this as well. As for those damned robots :

    • I think there’s no coming back from being ride or die for Trump. I think they’re cashing in by pleasing their mega donors with crap like the tax bill, bailing on the insanity of their party and settling in their cushy private sector jobs.

All of these guys are rich. There’s not much left for them to do now that they’ve cut their own taxes and eliminated the estate tax for their children.
