In other news, Congress has reached a deal to both fund the government beyond Friday and provide aid to families in Flint, Michigan. You can reset the government shutdown clock to 72 days. The current funding bill only funds the government through December 9th.

Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve has opened its own investigation of banks, such as Wells Fargo, for "compliance failures."

Finally, the NCAA has responded in absolutely hilarious fashion to a new lawsuit filed by a USC football player over unpaid wages.

“We are currently evaluating the claim, but strongly disagree with the notion that college students participating in athletics are employees,” NCAA chief legal officer Donald Remy said in an email statement. “Our experience is that these college students, like their non-athlete colleagues, are very focused on their academic endeavors. Moreover, they have a passion for their sport and a commitment to their teammates that can’t be equated to punching a time clock.”

Regarding the possibility of a government shutdown after December 9th, I think any congresscritter who votes to shut down the federal government or to default on federal financial obligations (debt ceiling) should be forever barred from running again for any federal elected office, including the presidency. Go ahead, vote to destroy the country if your “principles” are so important, but there will be consequences.

Truthfully I do not believe that this has anything to do with “principles”. It has to do with grandstanding and getting a lot of personal publicity and adulation from the corporate media and conservative mouth-breathers, while acting like that nasty little brat that everyone avoided in the playground who has to have his way on everything or else he will not only take his ball and go home, but chuck a grenade into the sandbox for good measure. Come to think of it – they all sound like Donald Trump wannabes.

Oh, I agree with you completely, hence the quotes around “principles.”
