While congressional Republicans are primarily focused on passing their fantasy budget that would radically transform the country into a Randian hellscape, they do have other important legislation that they wish to pass.
House Republicans will once again attempt to pass an abortion bill that was previously shelved.
“Life is precious and we must do everything we can to fight for it and protect it,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) told The Weekly Standard. [...]
The vote is set to take place around May 13, the two-year anniversary of the conviction of Kermit Gosnell, a doctor convicted of killing three infants who were born alive during attempted abortion procedures.
The previous version of the bill was shelved in January because some members objected to the idea that rape victims should be forced to report their assault to police if they want to have an abortion. The new version of the bill does not contain that provision, however it does require that women “receive either medical treatment or licensed counseling at least 48 hours prior to the late-term procedure.”
This is not the first time congressional Republicans have voted to pass a 20-week abortion ban and I'm sure it won't be the last.
Obviously, the president will not sign this into law if it does reach his desk.
