Projecting, Trump Says Germany is “Controlled” by Russia

Look, if there's someone who knows a thing or two about being controlled by Russia, I suppose it's Donald Trump.

Shortly after arriving at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Brussels during the overnight hours (early morning local time), Trump immediately attacked Germany by saying they're under Putin's control.

BRUSSELS – President Donald Trump unleashed his most remarkable broadside yet against a European ally on Wednesday, accusing Germany of being "totally controlled by Russia" and of not meeting its obligations to the NATO alliance.

"Germany, as far I’m concerned, is captive to Russia,"

German Chancellor Angela Merkel responded to Trump this morning by recalling her own experience living under Soviet rule in East Germany.

Arriving at Nato headquarters only hours after Trump singled out Germany for criticism, Merkel said: “I have experienced myself how a part of Germany was controlled by the Soviet Union. I am very happy that today we are united in freedom, the Federal Republic of Germany. Because of that we can say that we can make our independent policies and make independent decisions. That is very good, especially for people in eastern Germany.”

You might say older Germans have a lot more experience living under autocratic rulers than Donald fucking Trump does. Living under Mayor Michael Bloomberg doesn't quite compare.

Angela Merkel would be well within her rights to run over there and bodyslam that dumb asshole.

    • The only thing he could have said that was worse would be to call them Nazis. Jeebus what a dolt.

I’m waiting for him to start calling Angela Merkel “crooked Angela”. POS. Did I mention, FFFFFFFFFFF trump. And his enablers.

There’s a bilateral trade agreement in place between Germany and Russia. You know, the kind of deal Donald Trump insists is the only deal worth making. Russia is selling oil and natural gas to Germany—which doesn’t really have any—in exchange for Euros.

And Germany is fully in compliance with its NATO obligations, since it has until 2024 to increase its defense spending to a minimum of 2% of GDP.

More proof, if such were needed, that Donald Trump understands nothing about anything, including—perhaps especially—those things he has his strongest opinions about.
