Rand Paul Still Exists, I Guess

Remember Rand Paul?

Fake libertarian and senator Rand, son of Ron, doesn't always agree with GOP nominee Donald Trump, except when he does.

Rand spoke to 800 WVHU radio in West Virginia and said the election may not be rigged but the polls are probably rigged.

"You know, I think sometimes polling is done to dampen election turnout so when Trump says the thing's rigged, I'm not sure exactly what he means and I'm not sure I always agree with him," Paul said. "But I do think that when we say over and over someone can't win that is a form of rigging in the sense that it is designed to suppress turnout."

If it were true that polls have been rigged to suppress turnout, wouldn't that mean polls showing Trump ahead in Rand Paul's home state of Kentucky have been rigged? Have the polls been rigged to suppress Democratic turnout in Kentucky?

It goes both ways, doesn't it, or nah?

From what I gather, public media polls have actually been kinder to Trump and the Republicans than internal party polls have been.

I’m starting to think Rand Paul & Gary Johnson are each other’s doppelganger.

You know, I think sometimes polling is done to dampen election turnout

A lead in the polls cuts both ways. It disheartens Trump supporters who feel voting is futile (and therefore don’t bother voting), but it also makes Clinton supporters feel overconfident (and they don’t show up because victory is assured).

So “skewing” the polls to suppress turnout is nonsense.

So it’s come to this, the notion that reporting on Hillary Clinton’s lead in public opinion polling is a plot designed to discourage voting by Donald Trump’s supporters. Oy gevalt.

I still say the chemicals from the poodle perms has made Rand Paul this dumb.

I am currently having an argument with an (extreme) conservative. He is telling me that the LEFT are the ones who believe in conspiracy theories, not the right.

He is actually telling me that Global Warming is a liberal conspiracy theory. I’m still trying to wrap my head around that one.

A sane man is considered insane in an insane world. Keep up the noble fight Mr. Dread Pirate.

      • muselet

“Global warming is a liberal conspiracy theory.” Wow.

Who knew chemistry and climate science and physics were elements in a conspiracy? I sure didn’t.

I feel I should report back an update.

          1. His opinion that it’s a liberal conspiracy theory is based on the (liberal) theory that the energy industry knew and suppressed knowledge of global warming before it was publicly known. (This is in line with the Tobacco Industry’s suppression of health concerns re cigarettes). This is, while almost certainly true, a THEORY about a CONSPIRACY held by LIBERALS, and thus it is fair and accurate for him to call it a liberal conspiracy theory. I am forced to concede this point.

          2. He stipulates that the conservatives also have a conspiracy theory. This is the standard one, that there is no global warming and it’s all a hoax. In his defense (he is clearly smarter than the average conspiracy theorist), he argues that there is no way all the scientists and politicians and media are in on the conspiracy. He posits, instead, that a handful of politicians (probably including Al Gore) got the ball rolling in the first place (for political or profit making ends) and that everyone else is a dupe (victim of confirmation bias, or seeking funding / ratings / clout). Thus, while the right does have a conspiracy theory about global warming, he suggests that, by and large, the scientists and media are victims rather than perpetrators.

            Yikes.

You have far more patience than I do. My usual response to that kind of nonsense is along the lines of “Something, something tinfoil hat!” and than I just stop replying.

If it is I hope it works.
