Red, White and Blue

In other news, when I casually described Maria Butina as a "Russian femme fatale," that was apparently more accurate than I knew. In documents asking a judge to hold Butina in custody because she's a flight risk, federal prosecutors revealed that she had sex with her contact at the NRA in exchange for access to the NRA and, by proxy, the Trump campaign.

Butina was ordered to remain in custody this afternoon.

Meanwhile, lawyers from special prosecutor Robert Mueller's office met with a longtime aide to Trump's henchman Roger Stone in court this morning. Stone's former aide, Andrew Miller, is fighting a subpoena that probably concerns Stone.

Finally, records reviewed by the Washington Post show that Trump's private business has routinely missed deadlines for paying property taxes in at least five states over the past year.

I still believe the whole reason Trump ran for office was to make money. I believe his entire business was close to collapse (again) and he still owed money to the Russians so he ran for office. That's why his biggest priority was tax cuts for private businesses like his own. That's why he's differential to Russia. That's why the Russians own him. The pee tape is probably real, but the real reason he's subservient to Putin is because Russian oligarchs could bankrupt the Trump family tomorrow if they wanted to.

This has been my TED talk.

  • Ashby, nitpick, sorry but you used “differential” and I think you meant “deferential”.

Bill Browder retweeted this from Molly Mckew@MollyMcKew
“What news coverage has missed on Putin’s request to question @BillBrowder + @McFaul — there are congressional staff on the list. So, Russia wants to interrogate the people who have written our legislation about Russia — not the bosses, not the lawmakers. That is totally f**ked.”
This is outrageous. And unacceptable on any level. FFFFFFing traitor.

  • Badgerite

He’s a traitor in Putin’s pocket. Pure and simple. It was only a matter of time before Putin started agitating to export his political terror tactics to the US by making the US government complicit in the seizure of an the American citizen who was behind the Magnitsky Act, Bill Browder. We are not talking ‘tax cuts’ here. We are talking about the life of an honest and decent man that trump and sarah sanders are now putting in jeopardy. If the gop does not act here, they are simply the party of treason and condoning the arrest and probably murder of an American citizen whose only ‘crime’ has been to be an activist against Vladimir Putin. This is a violation of the oath of office of the presidency. This is a violation of the oath of office of every governmental employee and Congress person.

    • The Senate just unanimously passed a resolution opposing any US citizen from being interrogated by the Russians. FINALLY, some bipartisan, patriotic pushback.

      • Badgerite

About ffffing time, pardon my French. That SHS stood up there and said that this was “under consideration” was what really made me angry. WT holly F.
This is like Michael Flynn planning to kidnap a legal US resident and ship him off to Erdogan. Only done in broad daylight and from the Oval Office.
It should not have taken the gop even this long to say no in a very loud voice.

  • Ashby, I also think you’re right about why he ran.

  • Mark Cleary

“That’s why he’s differential to Russia.”

Can we please leave the illiteracy to Trump and his pals? A differential is a car part. The word you’re attempting to use is “deferential.”

    • Have you ever tried writing a blog like this, day in and day out, for years without an editor? It’s not easy–at all. I’ve been reading this blog for about a decade and Ashby (and Bob before him) do a fine job. They’re not perfect, because no one is. You didn’t have to be rude about it.

      • Mark Cleary

I’m not perfect, to be sure. But my spelling is. I understand that that makes me a rarity and a pariah on the internet. C’est la vie. I have degrees in writing and can’t get a writing gig. People like Ashby get paid to make mistakes (and leave them up after they’re pointed out). I’m sorry that I have a problem with that.

        • If you think Ashby is getting rich off this site, you are quite mistaken. He gets paid a pittance and the number of hours he has to put in is ridiculous. Start your own blog, build your own audience and you too can pay attention to the news cycle and work 24/7, periodically beg for money and pray that people click on your ads that annoy the ever loving crap out of them. Believe, I’ve run many a blog myself. It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

  • Ellen Kuhlmann

Ashby -I’ve come to agree with you, its all about the money. If there is a pee tape, it wouldn’t hold this much sway over Trump, if it came out he’d declare it doctored, ‘fake news’ etc., and keep moving. The only thing he really fears is being poor, really poor.

    • Badgerite

These days, I think he probably fears Special Counsel Mueller.

Just finished listening to Bob’s interview with Malcolm Nance. I was surprised and satisfied when he bluntly stated that the Russians used the Evangelical Christian movement and the NRA as a way of gaining access to the right because they realized that “the conservatives were greedy and self serving.” That fact is very carefully avoided in our mainstream press and it is genuinely refreshing to hear someone as knowledgeable as Nance to just state the obvious.

    Oy gevalt:

Trump said he wondered, after reaching a deal with Boeing for the new aircraft, whether to stick with the baby blue color that’s recognized worldwide.

He said he decided against it.

“Air Force One is going to be incredible,” said Trump. “It’s going to be top of the line, the top in the world, and it’s going to be red, white and blue, which I think is appropriate.”

At least he didn’t demand the plane be gold-plated, right?

The man’s taste is all in his mouth.

    • Like most babies,he is orally fixated. 😉
