Religious Liberty!

As far as I know this is a first.

A tow truck driver in Asheville, South Carolina refused to help a disabled woman who was stranded on the side of the highway because she has a pro-Bernie Sanders bumper sticker.

That wouldn't necessarily be a major surprise except the tow truck driver cited his religious beliefs to refuse service.

"Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave," said Ken Shupe of Shupee Max Towing in Traveler's Rest, S.C. "And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed."

What would Jesus do? He'd leave that poor, disabled woman on the side of the fucking road, of course.

The local tow truck driver claims he did not know the woman is disabled, suffering from "psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and early-stage Crohns" according to local ABC affilate WLOS, but he said he wouldn't have helped the woman even if he knew she was disabled. In Jesus's name, amen.

Tow truck driver Ken Shupe has made the great merciful Lord proud today.

I believe he went on to explain that those “socialists” don’t pay their bills…so apparently Jesus is now an accountant?

Jesus Christ, what a massive tool! Since when does the Lord come to people and tell them to be hateful assholes?

When reached for comment, Jesus Henry Christ replied by asking “What in the actual fuck?”.

And there it is. This twat has taken “religious liberty” to the place it was destined to go. There is no way of determining what is a “deeply held religious belief” so anything can be couched as such (though it doesn’t protect obvious crimes). If the roles were reversed and he had a Jesus fish on the back of his car and was refused service because the tow truck driver claimed she was pagan and God and Goddess told her to keep driving this guy would likely twist his knickers over religious persecution. I feel sorry for misguided people like this.

    • Groundloop

I feel more sympathy for the people this shit-stain affects with his callous heartlessness.

    • I don’t feel sorry for them at all. I think feeling sorry for them gives them an out, which they do not deserve.

Yes, that’s true. Any act or forbrearance imaginable could be characterized as an “exercise of religion,” which is why religion is not, has never been, will never be, and can never be, a complete standalone defense to civil…

(though it doesn’t protect obvious crimes).

…or criminal liability. It doesn’t protect “obvious crimes” and it doesn’t protect not-so-obvious crimes, and it doesn’t protect legal wrongdoing that is not criminal.

As my late father would have said; “jesusjumpingchrist, what’s wrong with him?”

Well Bernie Sanders is a Jew, who are responsible for the death of Jesus, so it makes perfect sense for this truck driver to deny the disabled woman any assistance whatsoever.

    NOT!!!

These so-called Christians are a disgrace to the Christian faith.

This is the problem with the “religious freedom” argument to refuse service. It has nothing to do with religion. The Christian right branch of the GOP has been headed this way for decades. I don’t want “sharia” law but I also don’t want “biblical” law. And I don’t want the United States to be divided into religious tribes. We are all Americans and we settle our political differences at the ballot box.
