Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) is very upset with the Obama administration for pledging to shelter more Syrian refugees.
Moreover, Brooks says President Obama created the refugee crisis. Somehow.
After criticizing the potential cost of resettling 10,000 refugees — “We’re going to be giving welfare to all these people!” — Brooks blasted Obama as the “primary world player” who caused the refugee crisis and bemoaned that the president wouldn’t “stand up and take responsibility for this mess.” [...]
“I think it’s an impeachable offense,” the Alabama Republican said. “But we don’t have the votes to even get articles of impeachment out of the House of Representatives or the Judiciary Committee.”
Aw shucks. They don't have enough votes to impeach the president for providing humanitarian aide to refugees. Free Market Jesus is rolling in his grave.
Brooks says President Obama should take responsibility for creating a mess which he did not create, but taking responsibility apparently does not include providing safe haven to refugees.
The idea that the Syrian refugee crisis was caused by President Obama rather than ISIS or Bashar al-Assad is preposterous and Mo Brooks should have been cut off right there.
What Mo Brooks may or may not be aware of is the United States already accepts tens of thousands of refugees and asylum seekers every single year. What the Obama administration has proposed is specifically increasing the number of Syrian refugees accepted into the country.
The United States has a long history of accepting refugees and asylum seekers under Republican and Democratic presidents but, you know, President Obama is black. He may also be a secret Muslim, depending on who you ask. I have a hunch that Representative Mo Brooks leans in that direction.
