Benghazi Congress

Report: Chief Benghazi Committee Counsel Said There’s Nothing to See Here

Remember the Select Solyndra IRS Committee to Investigate the Benghazi ACORN Birth Certificate Email Account?

According to a letter circulated by the top ranking Democrats on the committee, the former chief legal counsel for Bullshit Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy apparently stated in no uncertain terms there was no evidence of wrongdoing on the night of the attack in 2012.

The letter quotes former chief counsel retired Army Lt. Geneneral Dana Chipman who departed the committee several months ago for reasons that now seem dubious.

Cummings and Smith quote Chipman as telling Panetta: "I think you ordered exactly the right forces to move out and to head toward a position where they could reinforce what was occurring in Benghazi or Tripoli or elsewhere in the region. And, sir, I don't disagree with the actions you took, the recommendations you made and the decisions you directed."

Chipman later told Panetta that he was "worried" that U.S. officials were caught by surprise during the Benghazi raids, which occurred on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Still, Chipman told Panetta: "Nothing could have affected what occurred in Benghazi," Cummings and Smith wrote.

Chairman Gowdy's chief counsel reportedly said that in January just before he left the committee.

Why are we only hearing about this now and why did it have to come from Democrats on the committee?

Top pentagon officials, including assistant secretary of defense for legislative affairs Stephen C. Hedger, recently criticized the Benghazi Committee for seeking interviews with completely irrelevant staff members based on things they wrote on social media. Chairman Gowdy responded to Hedger by calling it a "partisan attack," but we now know Gowdy has ignored the words of his own top lawyer.

The Bernghazi Committee is suppose to wrap up their "investigation" at some point this summer, but what if they don't? I'm beginning to think there will be yet another Benghazi committee investigation during the next session of Congress unless Democrats retake the House.

If Republicans retain control of the House and Hillary Clinton becomes president, we can probably expect to see a steady stream of fake scandals over the following years the likes of which we've seen during the Obama administration. It could even be worse. We could see a Select Committee on Vince Foster.
