Report: Cohen to Accuse Trump of Crimes, Racism

Written by SK Ashby

I approach this news with at least a tinge of skepticism but, for what it's worth, various outlets reported this morning that Trump's longtime henchman Michael Cohen will make new claims against his old boss during a public hearing tomorrow.

Cohen is testifying in private today and Thursday, but he will appear in front of the House Oversight Committee tomorrow where he will reportedly claim that, among other things, Trump has lied about his wealth.

From NBC News:

During his much-anticipated public testimony before Congress on Wednesday, President Donald Trump's former longtime attorney Michael Cohen will provide evidence of his old boss's criminal conduct since becoming president, a knowledgeable source about what to expect told NBC News. [...]

Cohen will detail what he will describe as the president's lies, racism and cheating as a private businessman while Cohen spent a decade working for him, the source said.

Cohen will also reveal information about Trump's financial statements and may actually provide the statements, the source said. This information would require the president's long-held secret tax returns in order to verify, providing an avenue for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform to request those returns. As the source said, Trump deflated the value of his properties in some cases to reduce his property taxes.

I don't know if Cohen will say anything that is necessarily a revelation, but his testimony could still be vitally important if it leads to new avenues of investigation or provides congressional committees with what they need to pursue claims they're already aware of.

For the litany of crimes we're already aware of, such as the tax fraud scheme he's been involved in for most of his life, I assume Trump has committed many more crimes we don't know about.
