Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is "preparing" for the presidential debates alongside several conservative media celebrities, but he is not holding mock debates for practice according to the Washington Post.
When it was first reported that conservative radio host Laura Ingraham would help Trump prepare for the debates, it was widely assumed that she would stand in as Hillary Clinton, but apparently they're simply talking about the debates over McDonald's.
The Post reported that rather than reviewing policy positions or holding formal rehearsals, Trump prefers to hold Sunday lunch meetings over bacon cheeseburgers at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey with a group of confidants including former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, conservative radio host Laura Ingraham and newly-minted campaign manager Kellyanne Conway.
Based on statements made by Conway, the idea that Trump is an unprepared, unscripted doofus appears to be what they're going for against a more scripted Hillary Clinton who actually knows what she's talking about. I doubt Conway actually believes that's a good idea, but we all know Trump does what Trump wants. He calls all the shots.
The general election audience is not the same as the Republican primary audience, but Trump probably believes winging it will do him great favors just the same.
Former Fox News chief Roger Ailes has also attended these McDonald's sessions according to other reports.
