Report: Trump Privately Admits He Just Wants to Attack Jeff Bezos

Virtually everything Trump has said over the past week as he continues to attack Amazon has been wrong, but the truth is not important to him.

In this case it's possible he may actually be aware that Amazon is not costing the Postal Service money, or that Amazon does collect sales tax, but it doesn't matter. According to Vanity Fair, Trump is on a mission to attack CEO Jeff Bezos because he owns the Washington Post and the Post has not deferred to Trump as much as the New York Times has.

Now, according to four sources close to the White House, Trump is discussing ways to escalate his Twitter attacks on Amazon to further damage the company. “He’s off the hook on this. It’s war,” one source told me. “He gets obsessed with something, and now he’s obsessed with Bezos,” said another source. “Trump is like, how can I fuck with him?”

Trump is reportedly considering ways to attack Amazon, from canceling their federal contracts with the military to ordering the Postal Service to renegotiate their contract.

I'd say the likelihood of these things actually happening is slim because Amazon could sue the federal government for breach of contract but, in any case, I believe Amazon shareholders should consider filing a lawsuit against Trump before he escalates.

Trump's attack have already caused losses for company shareholders and it's clear he's doing it for personal reasons. This isn't about policy. This is about Trump's hatred of an independent media. Trump is committing securities fraud with the goal of intimidating Jeff Bezos, but I doubt Bezos is afraid of him.

Jeff Bezos has more money than does Donald Trump. That alone makes him a target for Trump’s rage-tweeting. Bezos doesn’t seem to care about Trump’s seething hatred, either, which has to irritate Trump no end.

And Bezos owns the Washington Post. ‘Nuff said.

Trump’s obsession with Bezos may very well cross the line of legality—an elected official deliberately acting to damage a company’s stock price should be illegal, even if it’s not—and all because the WP doesn’t toady as much as Trump wants.

This is not normal. None of this is normal.

Unfortunately, his base thinks it’s great. He’s doing exactly what they would like to be able to do to anyone who angers/frightens/disrespects/surpasses them, so they’re all behind him on it. It’s sick.

Where is the goddamned check of power on this lunatic? Congress is MIA on its duty to reign him in on his abuse of power because you know they will just go along with him. Unbelievable.

    • It’s such a dangerous precedent as well! I heard some liberal on another site say, “well if he manages to get rid of Amazon, that would be great”. Ummmm, noooooo. The President using the full weight of his office to attack a corporation in order to punish an individual (for personal reasons, no less) is COMPLETELY unacceptable–no matter what you think of the company. Now all we need is for Trump to put the military on our borders and he will have hit the Dictatorship trifecta. Step 1: Collude with foreign and domestic oligarchs to gain power and install loyalists to undeserved positions. Step 2: Abuse the power of the office to punish those who speak out against you. Step 3: Use the military on domestic soil for a spurious reason. Ding, ding, we have a winner!!!!

        ^^^ This.

This is the marked difference between left and right. There are exceptions, of course. But liberals will say “That’s not acceptable. Not if if it were one of our guys.” while modern “conservatives” believe “That’s not acceptable, unless it’s our guy. Then it’s fine.”

  • This alone should get him impeached but we’ll hear nothing from our Free Market-loving colleagues from the other side except crickets.

And the idiot Left is too busy thinking that the attacks on Amazon are okay because Amazon’s a big company and Bezos is an evil neoliberal billionaire.

      • Exactly! The old adage that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” doesn’t always apply. Are we really willing to throw our democracy out the window just to get rid of Amazon? No true liberal would think it’s okay. I think this is a dividing line on the left that we’ve seen before. Those who are willing to let Trump burn down the house so a new liberal paradise can rise form the ashes (I can’t even say that without snorting in derision) versus those of us who would rather work through the system as it is. We can’t ever forget that their are probably just as many people who will accept dictatorship on the left if it plays their benefit as there is on the right.

To “get rid of Amazon” you would have to get rid of the internet. I’m a liberal and a Prime member because they have products I can’t get locally. Among other things. And video and music and…….just about anything you are looking for and cannot find. And it is not all necessarily produced in China as Walmart’s and other store’s products are.
          The ‘left’ can back off.

Can’t stand the idea that Bezos has actually built his business rather than inherited it.

      Oh. Burn!!!

So once again trump opens the door for an amazing amount of shit to fall on his head…which would at least improve his hairdo.
