Report: Trump Wants to Ban German Cars

According to German media reports, Trump and his staff are currently looking for an excuse or legal rationale to completely ban luxury cars produced by German automakers.

Trump reportedly told French President Emmanuel Macron that he's tired of seeing them in front of Trump Tower.

President Donald Trump is preparing to impose a total ban on German luxury carmakers from the U.S. market, according to an exclusive report by German magazine WirtschaftsWoche.

Citing several unnamed U.S. and European diplomats, the weekly business magazine reported that Trump told French President Emmanuel Macron last month he would maintain his trade policy with the aim of stopping Mercedes-Benz models from driving down Fifth Avenue in New York. The report didn't give any further details on what policies would be used to effectively ban the premium carmakers.

Mercedes-Benz is a German-owned brand, yes, but they have production facilities inside the United States where Americans build their luxury vehicles.

For example, Mercedes-Benz has a several facilities in South Carolina. Trump won South Carolina so there's a fairly high chance that a significant portion of Mercedes-Benz employees voted for him.

Moreover, there's a fairly high chance that your average Mercedes-Benz dealership owner voted for and even donated to Trump's campaign or the Republican party in the name of tax cuts.

A total ban on German luxury cars would also harm downstream industries that service and maintain those cars and possibly car owners who can no longer find service.

It’s never about who is a friend to the United States. It is always about his “good friend”, meaning whoever will grease his palm and assuage his ego. in the realm of international relations, countries have friends. Those are what we call alliances. The individual leaders come and go but the alliances between countries endure because of shared values and shared histories and shared interests. I can’t think of a single friend of the United States that this POS hasn’t attacked.

Donald Trump doesn’t like seeing Mercedes-Benz cars, so he’s looking for a way to keep them from being imported.

Good lord, the man is a child.

Right? He’ll ban German cars that don’t hurt anyone but won’t ban assault rifles that do.

The United States of America behaving like a TV reality star bloathead. I wonder how that happened?
Do we have an ally in the world he hasn’t attacked?

If this happens (abd I sincerely hope it doesn’t) Mercedes Benz should respond by naming their next luxury vehicle the “Schadenfreude.” I can already hear the voiceover in the ad.

    “The Schadenfreude. Experience the downfall.”

Seriously, this guy just thinks this country is his to boss around and rule by dictate. And the co-equal branch of government that is supposed to be a check on this kind of authoritarianism is derelict in its duty because they want conservative judges in the judiciary, further politicizing the third co-equal branch of government that is supposed to act as a check on power.

    I need hard liquor.
