Ryan Effectively Gives Up on the White House, Trump Turns Against Ryan

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan effectively conceded the race for the White House during a conference call with his caucus members yesterday afternoon.

Ryan told House Republicans that he will focus all of his efforts on retaining control of the House so they can obstruct President Hillary Clinton.

Indeed, Ryan said he would devote his energy to ensuring Clinton doesn't get a "blank check" as president with a Democratic-controlled Congress, according to people on his private conference call with GOP House members. While the Wisconsin Republican did not formally rescind his own tepid endorsement of Trump, he told lawmakers they were free to do just that and fight for their own re-election.

While recent polls showed Hillary Clinton with a fairly commanding lead even before the entire nation saw footage of Trump bragging about sexual assault, it's possible internal polls show even bigger trouble for the GOP.

If Clinton actually wins by more than 7 or 8 percent as recent polling indicates, control of the House of Representatives very well could be in play. If Ryan is as concerned about his future as Speaker as he appears to be, that's probably more of a reflection of internal polling than public media polls.

It's up to everyone reading this to get out and vote. Take a friend or family member with you.

Paul Ryan’s strategy here is too clever by half.

If Donald Trump loses, Trump supporters won’t forgive Ryan for withdrawing his active support. If Donald Trump wins, Trump supporters won’t give Ryan credit for his I-guess-I-must endorsement. Ryan is boned either way.

Couldn’t happen to a more deserving clown jumped-up used-car salesman guy.

Douche would have been a better title for Ryan.

Paul Ryan is the type of enabler who was once put on trial in Nuremberg.

    Already voted.
Ryan is even a worse film flam artist than Trump.somehow he has deceived people into thinking he is a policy wonk with great intellectual capacities. He is totally full of shit. His proposals will screw the middle class, the poor and the elderly while enriching the 1% and bankrupting the country. Most of you here are smart enough to know this, but if you are further interested just google Ryan’s name and that of Paul Krugman. Krugman completely exposes Ryan for the fraud he is.
By the way, Ryan’s selflessness re the house is what he thinks will help him to the GOP nomination in 2020.

      Upvoted you for voting! 🙂

Paul Krugman once said of Newt Gingrich that he is “a stupid man’s idea of what a smart person sounds like.” That would apply to Ryan as well.

I hope it is a blood bath for Republicans on election day. And, if it is, I hope Democrats don’t squander the opportunity.

I hope it is a blood bath for Republicans on election day
      It will be.

I hope Democrats don’t squander the opportunity
      They will.

I hope it is a blood bath for Republicans on election day.

I do, too. I’m with Samantha Bee. This shouldn’t just be Clinton getting enough electoral votes; it should be an utter 50-state landslide. A full throated declaration to the anti-American idiots that have supported Trump and the GOP that their prejudice, childishness and attempts to destroy this country simply will not be tolerated.

And, if it is, I hope Democrats don’t squander the opportunity.

I see, alas, absolutely no reason to believe the Democrats will take advantage of their advantage at all. The Republicans will not change their ways one iota and will continue to obstruct and work their damnedest to destroy the country. And the Democrats will likewise remain unchanged and continue to not call them out on it.
