Team Trump: Trump Critics Are The Real Racists

Written by SK Ashby

It was only a matter of time before someone made this argument, right?

Noted anti-gay hypocrite, failed New York gubernatorial candidate, and Trump campaign co-chairman Carl Paladino spoke to CNN this morning where he was asked about Trump's attack on the integrity of Judge Gonzalo Curiel.

As Paladino is wont to do, because Paladino is a very bad person, he said the outrage is actually anti-white racism.

"This is incredible that you want to pull this word out and use it because it always pushes back on the white guy. That's not fair," he continued. "And it's not a fair description of Donald Trump. Donald Trump might have some anxiety about this particular judge because he lives in the same real world that I do where this type of thing does go on, where the ethnicity means something, OK?"

Thanks for making our point, Carl.

The obvious problem here, aside from everything, is that Trump has not attacked a white judge of European descent nor is it likely that he would. Trump has explicitly invoked Judge Curiel's family heritage, calling him "a Mexican," even though Curiel himself was born in Indiana, the state equivalent of Wonder Bread.

I shit you not, while I was in the middle of writing this post about Carl Paladino, news broke that Donald Trump said the same thing during a campaign conference call. He also called on his supporters to attack the judge and journalists who ask questions about the case.

An embattled Donald Trump urgently rallied his most visible supporters to defend his attacks on a federal judge's Mexican ancestry during a conference call on Monday in which he ordered them to question the judge's credibility and impugn reporters as racists. [...]

"The people asking the questions—those are the racists," Trump said. "I would go at 'em."

Trump also attacked his own staff which is probably why people on the call shared it with Bloomberg.

When former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer interrupted the discussion to inform Trump that his own campaign had asked surrogates to stop talking about the lawsuit in an e-mail on Sunday, Trump repeatedly demanded to know who sent the memo, and immediately overruled his staff. [...]

"Are there any other stupid letters that were sent to you folks?" Trump said. "That's one of the reasons I want to have this call, because you guys are getting sometimes stupid information from people that aren't so smart."

The "people that aren't so smart" are his own staff members.
