That’s Not How Anything Works

Why did Trump ban transgender service members from serving in the military?

Because drugs are bad, Trump says.

Trump participated in an interview with Good Morning Britain this morning where he was asked why he banned transgender service members and his response was baffling to anyone who understands anything about anything.

Because they take massive amounts of drugs, they have to,” Trump said. “You’re not allowed to take drugs, you’re in the military you’re not allowed to take any drugs. And they have to after the operation, they have to, they have no choice, they have to. You would actually have to break rules and regulations in order to have that.”

The military doesn’t prohibit service members from taking prescription medicines, including drugs prescribed for conditions such as depression and anxiety. The Navy, in fact, changed its policy late last year to allow pilots and other aircrew on such drugs to continue flying.

I'm sure it won't surprise anyone that Trump has absolutely no idea how the military or hormone replacement therapy works.

The military more or less runs on drugs and hormones prescribed to transgender service members are not even "drugs" in the way that most people think of drugs. Hormones are naturally occurring chemicals that our bodies either create or suppress depending on our dominant gender.

We've all come to expect that Trump will say the dumbest thing possible, but the regime's formal legal justification for banning transgender military service is just as flimsy as this.

Trump regime lawyers continue to argue that banning transgender military service is necessary to preserve military readiness, but the supposed harm to military readiness posed by transgender service members has never been substantiated.
