Bruce Bartlett -- NSFW! You probably know Bruce Bartlett from his scathingly anti-Trump tweets and Facebook statuses, but you might not know that Bruce was a top adviser in the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations. He served as the executive director of the Joint Economic Committee, and later Bruce served as a senior policy analyst in the White House’s Office of Policy Development. We went on to work at the Treasury Department as the deputy assistant secretary for economic policy, and he’s the author of Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy. If you like what you hear, please consider supporting this show at

  • Good interview! Bob, one thing I thought you would push back on was his desire to see politics be treated more as a sport, because that’s something liberals complain about all the time is how they treat it like a “horse race”. I kind of got the impression that he was talking more about reducing the sensationalism of it. Ultimately though, unless the profit motive is taken out of news reporting, there will never be any incentive to reduce sensationalism and the desire to appeal to “clicks”.

    • Thanks, IG! I think he meant that sports coverage features facts — stats and scores — that no one argues with. At least that’s how I interpreted it. I don’t think he intended that politics demands more frivolous coverage. I think he was saying the opposite.
