To use the words Donald Trump and “protection of life” in the same breath is ridiculous This man is a menace. Period. He has already laid out a ‘foreign policy’ that would lead to such instability abroad that the US could be drawn into a world war. Not to mention, he is not all there. Period. Country first, Mr. Ryan.
    Country first.

Thank you for pointing out that Trump’s comments about rape insult both women and men. When I was in the Air Force Reserves I served with many honorable men and women.

Since I have as little to do with Twitter as humanly possible, I don’t know what Donald Trump’s reaction has been to Hillary Clinton’s speech beyond what you guys mentioned. He can’t possibly like hearing stuff like this, though (via):

So it really matters that Donald Trump says things that go against our deepest-held values. It matters when he says he’ll order our military to murder the families of suspected terrorists. During the raid to kill bin Laden, when every second counted, our SEALs took the time to move the women and children in the compound to safety. Donald Trump may not get it, but that’s what honor looks like.

And it also matters when he makes fun of disabled people, calls women pigs, proposes banning an entire religion from our country, or plays coy with white supremacists. America stands up to countries that treat women like animals, or people of different races, religions or ethnicities as less human.

What happens to the moral example we set – for the world and for our own children – if our President engages in bigotry?

Chez, Trump’s lying is easily expressed mathematically: ∞

Bob, the first clip you played is one of my favorite parts of Clinton’s speech.

As Charlie Pierce has been known to say, a mark that will surely leave.

No way in hell would the Rs impeach a President Donald John Trump, if for no other reason than they’re terrified of Trump’s winged monkeys. Incurring the wrath of the short-fingered vulgarian’s more … erm … passionate followers would not make for a fun week.

Oh, of course Trump would use tactical nukes. Hell, he’d probably start with first strikes on the New York Times and the Washington Post.

Paul Ryan either just fell off the proverbial or he really is at the “sack of hair” level of intelligence. Trump isn’t going to pay attention to any agenda not his own.

I’m not sure Trump’s lying is a strategy. I think he can’t help himself. At this point, after all these years, it’s possible he doesn’t even know he’s lying.

Kevin Drum wonders which is more effective: CNN’s “out-of-band” fact checking or the New York Times‘s “in-band” fact checking (read the post, it’s not very long and explains the concepts better than I could). Of course, he also wonders if any standard of fact checking can keep up with Trump.

Donald Trump is the new Richard Nixon, complete with an extensive enemies list.

Bob, I agree with you with regard to Trump and the press. It would never happen because access is more important than accuracy, but the entire White House press corps walking out of a Trump news conference would be a beautiful thing.

Chez, you’re right. Fox News Channel will (officially) fall in line and support Donald Trump through the campaign. Now, it may be little more than “we can’t afford Hillary, so we’re for Trump,” but it will happen. And FNC would be solidly behind every initiative of a Trump presidency. It’s simply what they do over there.

Hillary Clinton has to go after the votes of the persuadables. If the people on the far-Left are as smart as they pretend to be, they’ll understand why (and I say that as someone who’d pretty far to the Left, at least in an American political context).

I think the most effective print ad against Trump would be to reproduce that tweet about sexual assault in the military and ask the obvious question: do you really want someone like that as Commander-in-Chief?

I interpreted Cenk Uygur’s answer somewhat differently than you guys did. He said he is naturally going to support the most progressive—whatever that means in this context—candidate for President, and that’s Bernie Sanders. Fine and dandy. Unspoken was the next sentence: if there were a more progressive candidate—which there isn’t—he’d support that person instead. He’s not being dishonest, exactly, he’s just doing the political equivalent of speculating on the number of angels which can dance on the head of a pin. (And I don’t think his argument makes sense, anyway.)

I so wish I had Chez’ faith in our country! But——if he can muster it, then I’ll try to as well. Thanks for the boost!!

There is no way to penetrate the Fox or AM radio bubble..if the Repubs nominated Satan, Cthulu, whoever, they will vote for them…I firmly believe that Trump will have to be prosecuted for his crimes, or the media will have to hammer his McCain/Mexican type overtly awful comments 24/7, or run constant montages of Trump’s flip flops and lies. Short of segregating their nominee to jail, if the number of stupid people in the US has reached critical mass, they will elect him. My tirade past about allowing Fox to exist and skew facts into fantasies, facts no longer matter as they can be morphed into anything.
Cenk is merely extending what I just talked about..facts and analytic thinking no longer matter..if you say it louder, then that becomes fact, or at least fact for you.

It’s completely understandable that a despotic jerk like Trump wants the power of the Presidency. What isn’t understandable is people that should know better, that know Trump would have a destructive effect on the entire world bending their knee and endorsing him.

“Who is the bigger fool? The fool, or the fool who follows him?”
