  • Aspirational America
Two kinds of Americans – There are Rich People, and then there are Any-Day-Now Millionaires who are temporarily inconvenienced.

  • Stoic Sophist

One issue about the “Trump collapse” happening now that someone else pointed out to me is that right now is when Trump should be wooing donors and building up his warchest, and the shitshow going on right now has to be seriously depressing that.

    • Stoic Sophist

Also, didn’t anyone notice that he offered two mutually exclusive explanations for his “blood coming out of her whatever” comment? ‘By “whatever” I meant her nose, and also by “whatever” I meant “whatever, let’s move on to the next subject.’ Could it be any more obviously a lie? It’s like a real live version of the joke where the guy says “I never borrowed you lawn mower, and also I returned it in perfect condition, and also it was already broken when I borrowed it”.

    • ProudLiberalAlways

I find it particularly interesting that Manafort is all over cable talking about how everything with tRump’s campaign is just fine and the best way for tRump to win is for the campaign to “let Donald be Donald” because it worked so well in the primary. How is it that his “manager” doesn’t know the difference between that and the general? Different tactics are required. He needs to expand his reach, not keep things just the same.

  • ProudLiberalAlways

Well, tRump has one of his interchangeable boys out there constantly saying “My Dad is a true blue collar billionaire”——–whatever the fuck that means. Apparently, too many are believing him.
p.s. Thanx both of you for a great birthday show for me!

  • Badgerite

Okay. Who was the presidential candidate who made a point of telling us how utterly adequate his ‘equipment’ during the GOP debates again? God, he is like a three year old. The dog ate his homework. etc.

  • Badgerite

No twitters from the Orange Monster. I would go with someone stole his device and locked it away somewhere. This is not someone who has self control. Period.

  • Badgerite

Okay. We get it. We will not get happy. We will bite our nails and gnash our teeth and probably not breathe again til that short fingered vulgarian is safely away from the nuclear button and and the good china. etc.

  • katanahamon

Wait..I thought that the story was that the Trump campaign agreed to a certain number of people, well ahead of time, and it was not nearly close to capacity, more like just a thousand people. Then Trump complained about how there were “so many who couldn’t get in” which of course was calculated by Trump. By agreeing to a low number, they guarantee people can’t get in, and will have something to complain about…

  • katanahamon

    OH GOD…please don’t broadcast Trump speaking anymore..I just don’t have enough Ativan…

  • Badgerite

The trump is one big implosion. He is simply completely unfit for office. I don’t really care what cable news has to say about it. The idea of a POTUS with the “attention span of a gnat is ……how shall we say,,,,,not good.

    • katanahamon

It is infuriating though..especially seeing Lewandowski spout propaganda on CNN…

      • Badgerite

I know. They stopped being about actual news a long time ago.

        • katanahamon

I can’t understand how a blatant violation of ethics (conflict of interest) in hiring an ex member of a candidate’s team, during the election no less, goes completely uncriticized by the news industry. Didn’t he just say something awful about President Obama, questioning his citizenship again? How is it that schmucks like this get hired for zillions of dollars and they are utter weasels?

  • katanahamon

Really bothers me how Trump is allowed to take a complicated story about the 400 million settlement and just lie in the worst way about it..spin it into something propagandistic and absolutely false.

  • katanahamon

I become alarmed at any, any talk about polls. Trump must be hammered with the reality of his fraud and all the horrible things he has said and done. Utah could surprise, Mormons are a bit sensitive to overt awfulness..if Romney tells them not to vote for Trump, they may not.

It is frightening how stupid America actually has become, that we have allowed someone just as dumb, yet more destructive than Sarah Palin get within a stone’s throw of the White House. Trump never did expect to get this far..as far as he’s concerned, this is all gravy unless his image suffers in some way (like it should). That’s why we can’t predict what is going to happen..

The thing that is “different” right now, is that people were really thinking that somehow, things were going to get more “serious,” or that Trump would turn it on and be a leader, except now he just continues to make stunningly bad statements, has a silly feud with the parents of a dead soldier, and wants to use nuclear weapons just because. Scarborough might have sat on it, but we already knew Trump said he would use nuclear weapons. People don’t even understand that the weapons we have now are hundreds of times more potent than the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs. Those bombs used conventional explosives to set off a critical mass..the modern “hydrogen” weapons use conventional explosives to set off a critical mass which then sets off the next stage, a fusion weapon..so, you need a “regular” bomb first to set off the fusion bomb (which is why North Korea has problems achieving that..it’s simply easier to set off a “regular” nuclear or fission ( not fusion) bomb. Clear? So, the fusion weapons would be hundreds of times more horrific. Casually mentioning using them shows extreme ignorance.

  • “Tended to understate the YUGENESS of the object”. I pay quite a lot of money to see a satirical movie about Trump’s campaign but only after he loses (we thereby avoid Armageddon).

I’m worried that he will drop out early and someone sane from the GOP will step forward and give Hillary a race. And at the same time I’m worried that he will stay in and win. I’m soooo confused.

    Zima reference, Drink!

The Christianists would vote for Satan over a Clinton. She’s apparently the Uber Satan.

It’s not just that Trump is ignorant. It’s the fact that he seems to have absolutely no common sense. One of the major reasons you’d not use a nuclear bomb against an enemy is that your enemies have neighboring countries that at not our enemies and will suffer disastrous environmental consequences from a nuclear strike. Why would he need to be told something like that. I just can’t process this.

  • Who Me?

i use this DAILY to see polls moving

  • Who Me?

Just now starting to listen to this podcast.. (catching up).

I wish someone in the media would bring attention to the fact Trump’s sons, right now are in the Yukon where they spend 1000’s of $$ to kill wild anmals for fun. It is beyond me why they aren’t taken to task over this. it is a horrid mindset that gets pleasure our of this (and) the fact it costs $40k to $60k to have the opportunity to kill these animals to defend their manhood, should remind his voters how he has nothing in common with them and can’t relate.

How is the media ignoring this? Right now even the media admits Trump is in crisis and the only people he listens to are his kids, but in the midst of this chaos, the Trump kkk boys left for their Yukon trip yesterday morning.

    • katanahamon

If only they’d invited Cheney along..

Bob, the Trump Implosion narrative segues neatly into the Trump Resurgent narrative, which segues neatly into the We Got Us A Horserace! Yee-Haw! narrative. This is how every presidential election since the rise of the infotainment megacorporations has been covered.

If Donald Trump had any intention of dropping out, he’d have done so during the primaries and become this cycle’s GOP kingmaker (kind of like I expected him to do—oops). At this point, he’s in the campaign until the bitter end.

Chez, Trump’s not faking it. He really knows nothing about anything. His response to the question about Zika proves it.

Utah may not go for Hillary Clinton, but I think it’ll be colored more pink than red when November’s returns are analyzed.

Chez, your (brilliant) “yokel whisperer” crack brings us right back to Trump as ringmaster of an unscripted television show. He knows what The Great Unwashed will watch on the haunted fishtank (as far as real estate and clothes and steaks and vodka and the rest, the stuff he’s tried to peddle to people with money, his finger’s not exactly on the pulse of the public). He’s PT Barnum for the new millennium.

Guys, I agree about Trump talking to the rubes in their own language, but it’s not a performance. Read interviews with the man when he still fancied himself a real estate magnate; he was just as inarticulate then as he is now.

Trump may not think he needs a ground-level campaign any more than he thinks he needs paid media. All he has to do is open his yap and he’s the top story on every news broadcast in the country, and he seems to think that’s all he needs.

Prominent Rs have lashed themselves to the mast that is Donald Trump (apologies for the visual I just conjured). They had a perfect opportunity to cut themselves down and run as fast as they could away from Trump when he went after Khizr and Ghazala Khan, but they didn’t. Hell, a bunch of ex-Trump staffers are working on the campaign of Paul Ryan’s opponent and Ryan still won’t withdraw his support.

Joe Scarborough is a waste of carbon.

Sadly, I fully believe that Trump had no idea why a President shouldn’t use nukes willy-nilly. He doesn’t know anything else, why should he know that?

It’s entirely possible Trump watched a spy movie a couple of days ago and that’s morphed into his super-duper-secret video. Either that or he’s flat-out lying.

Cable news is a blight. They’re lousy at reporting facts and worse at interpreting facts because they have 24 hours a day to fill.

“… [N]obody’s better to people with disabilities than me.” Oy gevalt.

Picking a fight with fire marshals is insane. Picking a fight with fire marshals when the campaign has signed documents agreeing to maximum crowd sizes in venues is … what’s the word? Trumpish? Trumpian? Trumpesque?

Donald Trump must never be elected President of the United States.

(Bob, you missed Derek Smalls’s (I think; it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the movie, so maybe it wasn’t him) fucking at 1:45, Chez’s fucking at 31:38, and Chez’s asshole (you’ve bleeped it before) at 50:43.)

    • Just heard this morning that McCain will be supporting Trump but NOT Jeff Flake. I was like WTF!

      • muselet

Figures. John McCain threw whatever dignity he had overboard eight years ago.

        –alopecia

        • I have to wonder if it’s senility that driving his willingness to go down this path and stick to it no matter what. You know how the elderly can get really, really stubborn and inflexible about things? Regardless of his reasons, he needs to go and I hope this time a challenger takes his seat.

          • muselet

The GW Bush campaign slimed John McCain in the South Carolina primary in 2000 (claiming he had an illegitimate black child, accusing him of committing treason while a POW in Vietnam, calling Cindy McCain a drug addict, et cetera), but McCain still threw his enthusiastic support behind Bush in the general.

It’s not senility, he just values party loyalty above personal dignity.

Personally, I like tRumpish. It’s both cute, and descriptive. Also memorable. And that’s important.
