  • The Refudiator

I’m am certainly glad that Mr. McCarthy will be erected to Speaker in the House. His astute leaderism is sourly lackey in the currant GOP leadership

  • Bosma

Balki from Perfect Strangers was from Mypos, which Kevin McCarthy should know, does not exist.

Also, McCarthy is just another product of right wing idiots who refuse to deliver speeches the way they should–with a fucking teleprompter, which they have demonized, because Obama, obviously.

    • skeptical_inquirer

Maybe like Palin, he wrote stuff on his hand.

  • Emily333

That’s exactly what I was going to say, Chez. This guy totally reminds me of W. I know, it’s really awful. But don’t you kind of miss W’s malapropisms?

  • Badgerite

Hungria? Is that somewhere near Klopstockia? ( see Marx Brothers movie Duck Soup – that is what the GOP has become).

    • Victor the Crab

I think it’s near Latveria where Doctor Doom lives.

      • Just across the mountains from Fuktupistan, next to Kikbakistan.

  • muselet

“Rocktober.” Just shoot me. Shoot me now.

    John Cole:

The terrible news of the day, yet another fucking mass shooting of Americans, was plastered all over the television screens of the hotel restaurants as we had lunch, and no one flinched. Either they didn’t notice the television, they didn’t want to think about it WHILE HAVING THE BEST TIME OF THEIR LIVES, or, more likely, they don’t know the people and Obama is right- we’ve become numb to it all. Another odd contrast- I’m in the gambling capital of the country, but the stakes here are far less than they are in any classroom in the country on the wrong day in the NRA’s hellish nightmare that America has become. At least here, you get to choose to gamble and evaluate the risk of your bet. Out there, it’s all or nothing, and no one is a winner.

Fuck these gun humping sociopaths who keep allowing this to happen.

    Hard to argue with him.

Bob, I’d phrase it differently: nothing changes because of cowardice. Every legislator, every executive (President, governor, mayor, whatever), every judge at any level of government who cares more about staying in office than s/he does the lives of her/his constituents—hell, the lives of all the innocents out here in the real world where we don’t have fucking security details, thank you very much, Supreme Court—is a coward, full stop. They’re willing to let the rest of us risk dying at the hands of the gun humping sociopaths because they have no job skills relevant for any real-world employment.

At this point, I’m almost willing to do this deal with the gun humping sociopaths: you can own any and every weapon your black, flabby little hearts desire. You want an AR? Fine. Shoulder-fired missile? Cool. Abrams tank? If you can afford one, go for it. In exchange, you are responsible for your weapons. If any of your firearms is stolen or misplaced or lost or whatever, you are on the hook for any crimes committed using that weapon. If someone is killed using your weapon in the commission of a crime, you are charged with felony murder along with the scumbag who pulled the trigger. How about it, gun lickers? You up for some responsibility to go along with your precious Second Amendment freedumb?

    Didn’t think so.

Chuck C. Johnson really needs to stop sullying the word “journalist.” That’s not what he is, that’s not what he’s ever been, that’s not what he ever will be. He should find something else to call himself. I leave it to the hive mind to decide what he actually is.

Bob, noncombatants tend not to fight back. If you’re a coward without honor, you have to go after them. Chuck C. Johnson and those his ilk are people who would have punched Ghandi because he wouldn’t fight back.

Of course setting a Planned Parenthood clinic on fire is terrorism, but our glorious news media won’t use the “T” word to describe it, and neither will a single R (I’ll scan the news in the morning to see if it happens—watch this space).

Mike Huckabee is flailing. He’s mired in single digits in the polls among Republicans and he’s trying to keep himself in at least the fringe of the spotlight. It won’t work—even the Talibangelicals are over him—but he has to try. Again, I disliked Huckabee slightly less when he was pretending to be a nice guy and bilking his online followers.

As far as the fetus fetishists and the affiliated anhedonic scolds are concerned, Planned Parenthood doesn’t provide healthcare, because they make it possible for people to have sex without consequences! Sex is for making babies, and having sex for any other reason makes the Baby Jeebus cry.

As I’ve said before, Kevin McCarthy isn’t an idiot. I’ve been aware of him for a few years because he was in the California legislature, and while he isn’t the brightest bulb in the candelabra, he can wipe the drool off his own chin.

Or so I thought. I may have to reconsider my opinion of the man. I thought the worst thing McCarthy said this week was his moment of unintentional honesty about the House Select Committee on Benghazi! Benghazi!! Benghazi!!!

Hungria is next to Narnia. Didn’t you guys know that?

I’m going to guess that catastrophic foreign-policy speech from McCarthy was supposed to be delivered by someone else (it sounds like standard Republican boilerplate), he got called on at the last minute and sucks at cold reading. That thought doesn’t fill me with confidence in his skills, but it’s less terrifying than the idea that Kevin McCarthy would, if he hadn’t gone into politics, be the finest geek the sideshow ever had.

Why is it that conservatives, when they try to be very serious, talk. Very. Slowly. And softly. And tend to pause oddly. Hearing those clips put me in mind of George W Bush’s 2003 State of the Union speech, when he said the Sixteen Words.

The best I can say about McCarthy’s speech is that I can think of two Rs who would have had more trouble with it than McCarthy did. Cold comfort, I know.

  • Kavonde

I’m blown away by McCarthy’s speech. I don’t believe he’s been quite that incoherent when he’s done speeches locally. Dumb and full of shit, but not incoherent.

Sorry again on behalf of the sane minority of Bakersfield, everyone.

    • HilaryB

He’s almost as bad as Sarah Palin.

  • Badgerite

Oh Lord! I never thought I would say this, but I already miss John Boehner. Abandon all hope if these people get control of the White House. Barely intelligible. It is literally hard to determine what the hell he is trying to say.

    • skeptical_inquirer

It says a lot when Boehner is more coherent than him and people joke about Boehner being a weepy drunkard.

  • HilaryB

All this crap going on is so mentally and emotionally exhausting. I may have to tune out until election day and then just show up to vote for whoever the Democrat candidate is.

  • leemoder

Dear god, we’re about to be blessed with Speaker Of The House Ralph Wiggum.

  • Aynwrong

“Kevin McCarthy Says Benghazi Hearings are All About Hillary;”

Every liberal would like to say to Kevin McCarthy…
