  • @ Bob:

Zygotes may be life, but they sure as hell ain’t sentient.

    • Did I say they were?

      • Pretty sure. In all other respects, I agree with you on the question. Along the lines of the work by Judith Jarvis Thomson, it doesn’t matter if it’s a human life (or a “person”), it does not have a right to life that supersedes a woman’s right to control what happens to her body.
In that regard, whether or not a zygote is sentient or not is irrelevant. Nevertheless, it isn’t…but that’s only the sort of concession (or error) that gives another bullet to the wingnnuts who want to demagogue the issue.

[At the 22′ mark, sounds like, “…in the broadest possible sense, our lives do begin – a fully realized, sentient human life – begins at the point of conception…”]

        • Well, yeah, I wasn’t quite clear enough. We eventually become sentient and that process begins at conception.

I just finished the show with a …word… from Nancy Grace, and one final raucus laugh from me, at exactly 4:20pm pacific. Another great episode! Man, anyone who thinks Bob is some sort of Lefty OBot need only listen to the show(s) the past few weeks, dude you track harder to the right on a lot of issues than I’d have guessed, and I thought I had ya pegged after a few years of reading 😉 You guys are a helluva team. Not sure how a third wheel guest host would affect the dynamic, but bringing Shannyn Moore back for a week, with the 2 of you, would be awesome (especially the after party hahahah)! Thanks for the show and lookin forward to the next hour-ish!

There’s nothing wrong with naming your dog Samwise.

Wild Cherry Pepsi out my nose when Chez nailed it!

  • I agree that there will be “pockets” of enslavement because it is already in motion….ie, Virginia. That is so f*cking offensive I can’t even express….gah!

Nancy Grace is one of the worst purveyors of what I refer to as Outrage Porn.

Bob, I’ve said it here before and I’ll say it again: the Rs—conservatives in general—are not fighting a war on contraception, and they’re not fighting a war on women. They’re fighting a war on sex—just ask Rick Santorum. Women are collateral damage.(Mostly. Some of these self-righteous men—I use that word advisedly—act as if the very existence of women is an affront, so they may be working out some cootie-related trauma from middle school. I wish these pishers would go to therapy rather than trying to take revenge on the entire female sex for long-ag0 humiliations.)

“Personhood” laws and amendments are pure, 200-proof, unalloyed idiocy. Personhood is a legal concept which has nothing to do with biology or medicine. Me, I’m not willing to confer personhood on a blob of undifferentiated cells.

“Abortion should be safe, legal and rare.” I remember when Bill Clinton used that formulation. The most common response from the Righties reading the LA Times (as it was in those days, before the useless members of the Chandler family decided they weren’t making enough money off the paper) was: “If it’s safe and legal, why should it be rare? Answer that, stupid pro-death un-American pinko commie liberals!”

The only satisfying thing that could possibly come from Rush Limbaugh would be the sound of him aspirating his own vomit.

Ah, Nancy Grace. One of the reasons I’m very glad I don’t have cable.

Bob’s ‘Limbaugh’ is goddamn awesome hahaha

      • Thanks! It occurred to me today that I don’t think he does the “nun-nuh-nun-nuh!” thing anymore.
