President Obama needs to stop at Bob’s house when he’s in Hawaii sometime. I’d love him to join us on the After Party and just talk about whatever. He’s such an interesting man.

Chez, there’s no way you can’t get married now (you said it on a podcast, you think Taryn won’t find out?). Seriously though, I wish the two of you all the best.

Wo de tian a, Bob, that ad was horrific.

That may well be the stupidest stunt I’ve ever seen. The drummer who was struck, Jef Prosperie, was a very lucky fellow. He said this on Facebook:

My leadership told me they were told there would be no axe throwing. I think the anchor person went rogue and decided to throw it.

Turns out, it was even stupider than it looked.

There was nothing gratuitous about Barack Obama using “the n-word”. He used the word in pretty much the only way it can be used without being offensive. However, people in Righty media don’t do nuance or context “cause that makes their thinky heads hurt, so they set their hair on fire and ran around in circles instead, which is always good for ratings.

Rush Limbaugh thinks removing the Confederate battle flag from state property is an attack against Southern Americans? No, fat boy, Fort Sumter was an attack. This is the equivalent of an adult politely asking a spoiled child to stop peeing on the carpet.

One side of my family is from the South. For a hundred years or more, they knocked around the region, working as sharecroppers and generally getting screwed over by Southern Gentlemen. They were poor white, never caught a break and never owned nothing, but somehow they had the smarts to move to California (via Texas, but still). And as someone who is half Cracker-American, I say take the m*****f****** Confederate battle flag down, put it in a museum and move forward.

In weak moments, I think Sherman was on the right track, but went too easy on the seditionists; the Union should have burned the South to ashes and sown the ground with salt. I don’t have those weak moments often, but I’m having them more often, especially every time I hear someone prattle on about Southern heritage and Southern pride.

    Talking Points Memo commenter “Spiffarino”:

The cops are obliged to feed detainees and did what they should have done. He’s an evil little sonofabitch, but he’s an evil little sonofabitch with rights.

Would a black suspect have been treated the same way? Theoretically, yes. According to policies and procedures, yes. Practically, no: we all know the police report would say something like, “suspect reached for his waistband and officers, fearing for their lives, shot the suspect approximately 142 times.”

“I don’t know how the party is letting this happen.” Bob, this isn’t the first election with a crowded clown car on the GOP side (although I do admit even the candidates polling at 1% or less are more steadfast than before). The difference, as far as I can see, is that this year R pols don’t much care what the party leadership has to say. (On an indirectly related note, R members of Congress who defied the party leadership are whingeing that they’re being punished for defying the party leadership. Isn’t it ironic that the same people who deride liberals for participation ribbons and other offenses against Manly Competition think they’re special snowflakes?)

“Rand Paul has an honesty problem.” In other news, water is wet and fire is hot.
