Taxes

“The Financial Contributions Will Stop”

Written by SK Ashby

Why are Republicans so adamant that they must pass massive tax cuts for the rich and corporations?

They say it will stimulate the economy. They say it will cost them the midterm election if they fail. They say lots of things, but they also say they must pass tax cuts for the rich and corporations or else the rich and corporations will stop giving them money.

From the Huffington Post:

The most excited group out there are big CEOs, about our tax plan,” Gary Cohn, the leading White House economic adviser and former chief operating officer at Goldman Sachs, said in an interview with CNBC on Thursday. [...]

My donors are basically saying, ‘Get it done or don’t ever call me again,’” Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), himself a millionaire, said on Tuesday. [...]

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told reporters on Thursday that a failure to pass tax reform would fracture the Republican Party and lead to more far-right wing primary challengers. “The financial contributions will stop,” he added. [...]

(Donors) would be mortified if we didn’t live up to what we’ve committed to on tax reform,” Steven Law, the head of Senate Conservatives Fund, a super PAC affiliated with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), told the New York Post.

"The most excited group out there are big CEOs." No shit?

Rich donors paid a lot of money to install a tax cut regime and they want what they paid for, isn't that right? We don't have to make that connection ourselves when Republicans are willing to say it out loud. These are their words.

One must question the wisdom and wit of rich donors who seem content to hand over hundreds of millions of dollars to elect the same incompetent jackasses over and over again who fail to deliver on the overwhelming majority of their promises. Their donors may be upset if Republicans fail to pass tax cuts, but it wouldn't be the first time and they haven't abandoned the GOP for any other reason. Why would this occasion be any different?

The Republican government is the best (worst) government money can buy.
