In other news, Jim DeMint’s Heritage Foundation is urging Republican lawmakers to pass measures to fund militias and vigilante groups if the president issues an executive order on immigration.

What could go wrong?

Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights now estimates that at least 191,369 people have been killed in Syria since fighting began in March of 2011.

Jim DeMint’s Heritage Foundation is urging Republican lawmakers to pass measures to fund militias and vigilante groups

Providing money and other assistance to groups whose stated purpose is to work against if not overthrown the legitimately elected US gov’t?

How blatant does the treason have to be before charges are brought?

  • muselet

That’s exactly what we need: more yahoos with guns and bad attitudes at the border.

I’m old enough to remember when the Heritage Foundation was considered a reputable—and occasionally unpredictable—center-right think tank. I never thought I’d miss those days.

I’d say the day Jim DeMint took over was the nail in the coffin. It was already well on it’s way,

      • muselet

        You’re right, of course.

Heritage had been coasting on its reputation as the serious, two-degrees-Right-of-center counterpart to the Brookings Institution’s serious, two-degrees-Left-of-center policy shop for a couple of decades before Jim DeMint swept in. As it happened, the average wealthy Righty was more likely to stick a crowbar into his wallet to fund reliable hacks and political screechers (at AEI and the Competitive Enterprise Institute, for example) than people who might once in a while reach conclusions that did not obviously serve the interests of wealthy Righties. Who could have predicted?

        I miss reasonable conservatives.

There just isn’t a public face for reasonable conservatives anymore. Once they had their story of absolute “rightness” wherein “the left” was un-American and treasonous, they had to stick with it.

That’s a big part of it, yeah.
