In other news, coal consumption for electricity generation dropped to the lowest level in 36 years in 2017 according to new numbers from the Energy Information Administration.

Meanwhile, the Koch Brothers are reportedly planning a “multi-year, multi-million-dollar” to oppose Trump's trade war(s).

Finally, the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of the Masterpiece Cakeshop which refused to bake a cake for a gay couple, but the court did not address constitutional questions about the First Amendment and "religious liberty." The court ruled that state authorities in Colorado treated the baker unfairly. That's it.

A similar case will be right back in front of the court before too long.

Justice Kennedy has always been solicitous of religious sensibilities. He is not a raging liberal. Neither is Justice Kagan or Justice Breyer. This is not some blanket victory for those who would like to continue to discriminate housing and other areas of society against LGBT’s or their families.

    • Unfortunately, Kennedy is pretty close to retirement. He may leave before this comes up again.

      • Badgerite

        I hope not.

        • Sad, isn’t it? If Hillary was President, Kennedy couldn’t retire fast enough for me.

          • Badgerite

Well, I don’t have the same attitude toward Kennedy as you but I do know that whoever the gop gets in there to replace him will be a Heritage Society Neanderthal, legally speaking.

Fortunately, if another seat becomes open, we can take our lead from Mitch McConnell and just point to the “McConnell Rule”. It’s the one that says that during the last four years of his term a President can’t nominate someone to the Court.

            Works for me.

How long before the Energy Information Administration is denounced as part of the deep state?

The Koch bros. spent decades fomenting the environment that elected Trump to the White House especially thre Obama years and they were actively celebrating Trump’s election but instead of a loyal middle manager such as Paul Ryan or Scott Walker who do what the money tells them, they got someone who actually believes all the shit he hears from the three idiots on Fox & Friends and talk radio. They want to put Frankenstein’s monster back on the operating table and reprogram it.

Personally, I’d never give such a baker my business. But I’m also a straight, white guy so I have that luxury. I don’t really want to someone how to run their business but I’m also aware of what happens when discrimination becomes protected. It becomes the norm.

I doubt Trump would ever pardon a coastal, cultural, foreign born effete elite like Hannibal. Hannibal doesn’t like fast food.

And Hannibal doesn’t make the “libruls” blow a gasket so there is no red meat for the base.

      • Aynwrong

I think it would do Trump a world of good if Hannibal would prepare a meal for him that included some fava beans and a nice chianti.
