The White House’s Next Target: Legal Immigrant Children

Written by SK Ashby

The White House has already waged a campaign to isolate and torture undocumented children who've entered the country, but they're setting their sights on legal immigrant children and even children who are American citizens by birth.

It's been a long time since we first heard that the White House wanted to prohibit immigrants from becoming citizens if they've ever used a social assistance program, but NBC News reports that the policy will be unveiled publicly at some point in the coming weeks.

The policy will reportedly target immigrants who've used any program of any kind including the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The move, which would not need congressional approval, is part of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller's plan to limit the number of migrants who obtain legal status in the U.S. each year.

Details of the rulemaking proposal are still being finalized, but based on a recent draft seen last week and described to NBC News, immigrants living legally in the U.S. who have ever used or whose household members have ever used Obamacare, children's health insurance, food stamps and other benefits could be hindered from obtaining legal status in the U.S.

Immigration lawyers and advocates and public health researchers say it would be the biggest change to the legal immigration system in decades and estimate that more than 20 million immigrants could be affected.

Advocates say this would hit working immigrants the hardest because their wages and salaries aren't enough to take care of their family, which seems obvious. That's the whole point.

Republicans, even rabid racists like Stephen Miller, will break bread with you if you're already rich. Well, maybe not Stephen Miller himself, but most of them will.

The Trump regime's crackdown on immigration has already widened the labor shortage in America and it seems certain that this policy will widen it even further if it's not blocked in court.

This will be just the latest contradiction in the Trump regime's incoherent economic policy. Trump's trade war calls for manufacturing more goods in America, but he's simultaneously shrinking the pool of available labor by removing every immigrant they can get their hands on including legal permanent residents who committed minor offenses 30 years ago. The White House has also reduced the number of temporary worker visas available to employers even though Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort is hiring just as many temporary workers as it ever has.

There just isn't enough white people to go around and there probably won't be ever again.
