National Security

There Will Soon Be No One Overseeing Our Nukes

Just as we will soon have no ambassadors because despot-elect Donald Trump has decided to break with continuity and precedent to remove everyone ever appointed by President Obama, we will soon have no one overseeing our nuclear weapons.

The incoming Trump regime has informed the chief of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to leave immediately and there's no replacement in sight.

According to an official within the Department of Energy, this past Friday, the President-elect’s team instructed the head of the National Nuclear Security Administration and his deputy to clean out their desks when Trump takes office on January 20th. [...] Or, as our source put it: “It’s a shocking disregard for process and continuity of government.” [...]

The source later added, “I’m more and more coming around to the idea that we’re so very very fucked.”

Civilians who work at the NNSA will remain at their posts and fulfill their duties, but the agency will not have an official leader who speaks to Congress or directs the agency. It's not clear who agency employees will report to while the agency has no director.

The NNSA is an agency within the Department of Energy. As you know, Trump has nominated former Texas Governor Rick "Oops" Perry to serve as secretary of the Department of Energy. That's not exactly comforting.

Tell us again, purity trolls, how Hillary Clinton would have been a greater danger to the world than Donald Trump. Tell us again that Trump might be a bumbling ignoramus, but Clinton is evil! Go on, you know you want to.

If this bit of news doesn’t scare the poo out of you, you’re either not paying attention or you’re too stupid to be taken seriously.

They could tell us, but…it would be after spouting off how Hillary killed people in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and how she stole the election from Bernie, and how she’s corrupt…

Don’t expect an answer. Just like the unrepentant Naderites in 2000 through 2003, they really think that the Democratic candidate was worse. Nothing will change their minds–except a national crisis.

      • muselet

Actually, a national crisis would only stiffen their resolve:

“The only reason we have a crisis is because the corrupt Democratic Party conspired against Bernie!”

        Or:

“Jill Sanders would have handled this crisis better!”

        *sigh*

  • Some of the day to day business will continue along but if we have a crisis, and we probably will, without leadership we will be royally effed. In fact, hostile countries would be idiots not to take advantage of the lack of leadership. Herr Hair’s transition is so dangerously incompetent I’m beginning to wonder if he isn’t clearing the way for a foreign power to invade or attack us. And you all know I’m not a tin foil hat wearer….I demand facts. But we will be so frigging vulnerable it’s starting to get scary.

Well, maybe it’ll be like the 1980s mini-series AMERIKA, instead of RED DAWN.

Another disturbing thought is how many “rock-ribbed, all American” GOP types will welcome this.

    • I’ve been wondering the same thing. Really feels like we’re being set up.

  • Aynwrong

I will never forgive Trump’s God damned voters for the denigrating stupidity that they empowered and will be on display for the next four years.

    • ninjaf

      They do not deserve forgiveness.

      • Scopedog

Exactly. We won’t forget and we won’t forgive.

The same thing goes for the far Left purists who ran from Sanders to Stein while claiming that Hillary was worse. To hell with all of them.

I hope Rick Perry’s next “Oops” won’t involve those nukes he’s in charge of.
