Tourism Has Fallen Off a Cliff

Written by SK Ashby

I doubt this will surprise anyone.

According to Foursquare, foreign tourism to the United States is rapidly declining while tourism to other parts of the world is increasing.

America's share of international tourism has dropped 16% in March, compared to the same month in 2016, according to Foursquare data released Wednesday. [...] From October to March, tourism-related traffic has fallen an average of 11% in the US, compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, tourism in the rest of the world has increased 6% year-over-year during the same period.

You may or may not care what the rest of the world thinks of America, but their view of us can have very real economic consequences. Foreign tourism to the United States is a nearly $11 billion industry and our most frequent visitors travel from Canada and Mexico, two countries that Trump has picked various fights with.

Foursquare CEO Jeff Glueck says tourism from the Middle East and Central American countries has declined the most. I would think the reasons for that are obvious. Trump and the GOP have decided that brown people are bad even though the greatest threats we face today, both here in and U.S. and in Europe, are homegrown threats.
