In other news, Federal Bureau of Prisons chief Mark Inch has resigned because he was sidelined while Jared Kushner and Jeff Sessions fight each other over prison reform.

Mr. Inch told [Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein] he was tired of the administration flouting “departmental norms.” And he complained that Attorney General Jeff Sessions had largely excluded him from major staffing, budget and policy decisions, according to three people with knowledge of the situation. Mr. Inch also felt marginalized by Mr. Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, in drafting prison reform legislation, the officials said.

Meanwhile, nearly 1,500 children who've been separated from their parents by ICE are now missing according to the Office of Refugee Resettlement.

Abolish ICE.

Finally, EPA administrator Scott Pruitt's security costs have reached $3.5 million, far more than previous administrators.

Taxpayers spent about $3.5 million on security for Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt during his first year in office, according to records released by the agency Friday. That total includes $2.7 million on salary and overtime and more than $750,000 in travel costs.

Here are some other stories I missed this week:

Trump's "global gag rule" on abortion and contraception funding has led to even more abortions.

A State Department employee serving in southern China has reported symptoms similar to those experienced by diplomats in Cuba who were victims of still-unexplained "sonic attacks."

Former staffers say GOP Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA) and his wife made them do household chores and pick up dog shit during standard taxpayer-funded work hours.

Federal prosecutors used selectively edited video from James O'Keefe in their case against inauguration protesters, a judge has ruled. Good job, everybody.

Intelligence sources say Vladimir Putin's new "unlimited range" missile actually crashed after 22 miles during its first four test flights.

At least $1.2 billion in cryptocurrency has been stolen since since 2017 according to cybercrime researchers.

Former GOP Rep. Steve "If Babies Had Guns" Stockman (R-TX) has been convicted on 23 felony counts ranging from fraud to money laundering.

Monday is a federal holiday so we'll be back in action here on Tuesday. Solo: A Star Wars Story was a lot of fun and I recommend seeing it over the weekend if you have a chance to. Have a good weekend.

What ICE is doing today is going to be remembered as the Japanese interment camps of our time. This was all so easily avoidable.

    Abolish ICE!

Charlie Pierce calls “The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” the greatest anti-war song of all time. I prefer “The Green Fields of France,” mostly because it makes me cry more.

Both songs were written by the great Eric Bogle.

I used to genuinely dislike Jackson Browne’s “Lives In The Balance”. I felt the lyrics were too on the nose. I always skipped over it when it started playing on the CD I had in the car. One night driving home I just let it play. It was late in the Bush administration and suddenly the lyrics seemed be describing contemporary times perfectly even though the song goes back to the 80s. My opinion of a song has never changed so instantly. I’ve found it to be very disquieting ever since.

I was never crazy about the song, either. Jackson Browne is a hugely talented songwriter, but I’m not convinced by this one (it’s not bad, exactly, just not good enough to my poor old ears).

    Abolish ICE.

That’s what Samantha Bee said the other night.

Enjoy your long weekend, Ash. Drink lots of adult beverages, for God knows, you deserve it!
