Trump Blows the Secret Terrorist Dogwhistle

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, whose birth certificate investigators may or may not still be in Hawaii, blew the dogwhistle on multiple networks this morning.

During appearances on Fox & Friends and NBC's Today show, Trump implied that President Obama has allowed attacks to occur because he is a secret terrorist sympathizer.

"We're led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he's got something else in mind," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said during a phone interview on "Fox and Friends."

"And the something else in mind, you know, people can't believe it, people cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can't even mention the words 'radical Islamic terrorism,' " he said. "There's something going on — it's inconceivable. There's something going on.

On NBC:

Although the GOP candidate said he personally considers the president to be clueless, he gave consideration to conspiracy theories that the president has ulterior motives.

"There are a lot of people who think maybe he doesn't want to get it. A lot of people think maybe he doesn't want to know about it," Trump said.

After seeing Trump's comment this morning I was immediately reminded that this is more or less a mainstream position for Republicans. Many Republicans believe the president is a secret Jihadi and even those who don't believe the Muslim Brotherhood has a direct line into the president's ear.

It's the middle of 2016 and Congress still hasn't passed a new Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) to fight ISIS because some congressmen believe the president would somehow use the AUMF to help ISIS.

The idea that President Obama is a secret terrorist sympathizer is an extension of birtherism. The overarching, racist theme is that President Obama is a Manchurian candidate who duped a nation into voting for him so he could destroy America. He doesn't have America's best interests at heart, they say. They say he isn't interested in protecting America.

If they could get away with publicly calling the president a nigger, they would. Calling him a secret terrorist is their substitute.

That boy is not well! I’d say giving him some electro shock therapy would do us him a world of good. And if that fails, a frontal and rear lobotomy.

  • I’ve given this a lot of thought and here are my eloquent reflections on Trump’s comments.
Fuck this fucking fucker. Seriously, fuck him.

Nooooo. Nothing racist there. Other than banning Muslim immigration and waterboarding everyone and anyone, what, exactly does the Trump Monster propose as policy? Oh, that’s right. He doesn’t do policy.
Mitch McConnell said so. They want him as a rubber stamp to any piece of noxious legislation that attacks the middle class that they can dream up.
Just vague and nasty conspiracy theories.
So. Aside from banning all Muslim immigrants which I am pretty sure is unconstitutional? What else? Troops on the ground in Syria? Troops on the ground in Iraq? Drones? No drones? NSA? No NSA?
Expanded surveillance? No surveillance? What? Or do we just stand there, click our heels together three time and say the words “Islamic radicalism” three times and problem solved.
    God, he’s an idiot.

We’ll see if they’ve fully accepted the LGBT community if they back off from their bathroom monitoring of transgendered people or if they don’t support bigoted clerks for denying gay couples their marriage licences. I suspect it’s just them choosing the “lesser of two evils” when compared to “them dirty Mooslum terrists wantin’ to impose their Shareea law on good Christian folks”.

    Exactly.

Donald Trump believes it’s appropriate to take advantage of the worst mass murder in American history to fluff himself. Because, apparently, his campaign strategy is to display as little basic decency as possible (a strategy known as “shoring up the Republican base”).

    What a disgusting little man.

I wonder if it would be a good idea for Hillary and her surrogates to call Trump out for this. He deserves it and people should know this is how he behaves. On the other hand it might be seen as getting into the mud with this pig and worse, it could exacerbate the pain of the family members.

I’d say no. Hillary Clinton should go after Combover Caligula (h/t to the fine folks at Balloon Juice) for his shady business dealings, racism, misogyny, constant lying, tax returns and all the rest, but leave this one strictly alone.

    Well said Ashby.
