Trump Hallucinates Messages From Past Presidents

JM Ashby
Written by JM Ashby

Trump recently claimed that past presidents have privately expressed support for his fantasy border wall.

That's not true, of course, so why would Trump say such a thing?

Trump is known for just making shit up, but Vice President Mike Pence says Trump said that because he saw some video clips.

Pence told NBC’s “Today” show on Tuesday, “I know the president has said that was his impression from previous presidents.” [...]

Pence says he’s seen “clips of previous presidents talking about the importance of border security and the importance of addressing illegal immigration.”

We have a "president" who believes previous presidents are speaking to him through the television.

Erm … Mike Pence thinks his comment is helping Donald Trump?

    Wow.

This obvious and provable lie is as brazen as the one where he looked right at those soldiers and told them to their faces that he had given them a 10% pay raise.

He doesn’t care that the soldiers know how much their paychecks are and know damn well he was lying. He doesn’t care that the former (actual) presidents know that they said no such thing to him and know damn well that he is lying.

As long as he thinks it will win him praise or shut up whoever he is talking to, he will lie lie lie lie lie. And face it, nothing immediately bad happens to him as a result of his lies, so why shouldn’t he keep lying.

Right now, the wall is a) a distraction from Mueller and b) the end result of two years of trump still not grasping that no he can’t do whatever he wants whenever he wants to do it and not being able to face being a loser.

I hope he is stupid enough to squall that he promised his voters the wall and he needs the wall to keep their votes in 2020.

This article is beneath you. It’s something I might expect from a Fox-type article, but not here.

It’s reading a lot into an otherwise innocuous comment, making aspects up, and them trumpeting them in a headline.

Past presidents HAVE spoken about the importance of border security and immigration. Clips of them doing so are easily available. Pence comments that Trump has seen some. How do you get from that to Trump’s “hallucinating” that they’re talking directly to him?

Noting, for example, that Trump claims past presidents’ comments show that they agree with him about needing a wall when they don’t, or that Trump is taking his predecessor’s comments out of context and twisting them or in any other way doing his typical lying would be a fair basis for an article. But constructing a headline designed to suggest Trump is seeing things that aren’t there, that he’s imagining things and things the people on TV are addressing him directly? Leave it to Fox.

“This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me,” Trump said. “And they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

He was speaking specifically about the wall. I would have preferred a headline stating that he blatantly, brazenly, purposefully, lied to the American people. Saying he is hallucinating is kinder.

Pence says he saw clips; trump says they told him. Sure. If those two things are true, then yes trump thinks past presidents are speaking to him through the television.

      • Christopher Foxx

then yes trump thinks past presidents are speaking to him through the television.

Let’s not be coy. The Ashby’s headline and his final sentence were chosen to leave the impression in folks’ minds of Trump dementedly seeing things that aren’t there and believing the people in the TV box are talking specifically to him.

Trump claimed previous presidents privately told him they should have built a wall so he wouldn’t have to.

That never happened. They never said it. So, yes, he is seeing things that aren’t there.

I frankly don’t give a shit if you were offended by any of this.

      • Christopher Foxx

So, yes, he is seeing things that aren’t there.

No, he’s claiming things that didn’t happen. Lying is not the same thing as “hallucinating”. I cannot believe you’re not aware of the difference.

I frankly don’t give a shit if you were offended by any of this.

Who said I was offended? Certainly not me. Disappointed at best. In this particular article, and in your overblown defensiveness to criticism.

        • JMAshby

Your concern is noted and discarded.

          • Christopher Foxx

Your thin skin is similarly noted.

          • JMAshby

You don’t get it. This is not me having a thin skin, this is me being completely unimpressed by your concern trolling.

          • Christopher Foxx

So unconcerned you felt compelled to reply three times to my completely ignorable feedback.

            Got it.

Also, their 4000 suspected terrorists detained turns out to be..6. What I’d really like to know is what happened with those six? We’re they actually “bad hombres,” or were they released? F’ing liars. Rachel Maddow said “maybe they rounded up to the nearest 4000.” If this stupid broadcast goes ahead tonight, Chuck and Nancy should announce that due to his lying and attempting to incite panic over a nonexistent “emergency,” impeachment proceedings will be started tomorrow.

  • katanahamon

Lies. Nothing but lies. Why are we putting up with this? President Obama couldn’t wear a tan suit for God’s sake..can you imagine if he had told one verifiable lie? His mouth would still be open and the ink in the articles of impeachment would be dry. I’m sick to death of the hypocrisy, the double standard of him and the right wing spouting lie after lie every day and just getting away with it!

Next he’ll believe he’s the fifth Beatle. I’ll go so far as to say he’s a bug or a pest (with apologies to bugs and pests)…but not a Beatle.

In all seriousness, trump said they told him the wall was a good idea that should have been done. That’s pretty effing far from them mentioning border security on tv.
