Trump, Lover of Fast Food, Wants to Shut Down Food Safety Inspections

Written by SK Ashby

As you know, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump loves fast food and regularly consumes McDonald's cheeseburgers and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

To each their own, but Trump also says he prefers fast food because "at least" he "knows what's in it."

That's a dubious claim even today, but that certainly wouldn't be the case after Trump shuts down the "food police" at the FDA.

Trump’s campaign distributed a fact sheet outlining “specific regulations to be eliminated.” Among other things, this fact sheet took aim at “the FDA Food Police.”

These “food police,” according to the Trump campaign, “dictate how the federal government expects farmers to produce fruits and vegetables and even dictates the nutritional content of dog food.” They “govern the soil farmers use, farm and food production hygiene, food packaging, food temperatures and even what animals may roam which fields and when.” The FDA “also greatly increased inspections of food ‘facilities,’ and levies new taxes to pay for this inspection overkill.”

Fast food and other processed food producers would be the very first in line to take advantage of lax regulation (or no regulation) to boost their profit margins at the expense of consumer safety. They do that even now.

Trump's policy proposal was pulled offline last night, probably because even most conservatives would rather not literally eat shit.

Moreover, the proposal also called for deregulating dog food and everyone loves dogs.
