Trump May Deploy More Troops Because He Heard a Thing

Active duty service members who've been deployed to our southern border with Mexico have little to do other than clear brush and sit on their asses while serving as pawns in Trump's political machinations, but he may deploy more of them because some random people told him things.

After a group of local GOP donors told Trump horror stories that probably aren't even true, Trump said he would have to deploy more troops.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he would have to mobilize more of the military at the U.S. border with Mexico after listening to stories about migrants crossing the border from people attending a Republican fundraiser.

“I’m going to have to call up more military,” Trump said. [...]

“Many, many dead people,” Trump said, referring to migrants who he said had perished after making the journey. “Also they come in and raid their houses, and it’s very dangerous,” Trump said, referring to locals affected by the influx of migrants.

I won't say it's impossible that someone's house was raided by immigrants, but the only stories I can find about raids in Texas were carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

With that said, even if you take these stories at face value -- and Trump apparently does -- deploying more active duty service members in response makes no sense at all.

Service members cannot participate in law enforcement activities and they would not even be stationed anywhere near the private property Trump is referring to. And, moreover, protecting private property for political purposes isn't their job.
