• Well, I personally didn’t die, so he did keep me safe.

    • Kavonde

That actually might be more insightful than you intended.

  • GrafZeppelin127

No one who would be inclined to vote for Jeb Bush (a.) cares about the irony, or (b.) actually believes or is capable of believing that his brother was in any way responsible for failing to keep the 3,000 or so people who were under that rubble safe.

    • JMAshby

You’re right, but I’d say that’s an increasingly small group of people as demonstrated by his sliding support. The kind of people who support Trump and Ben Carson think George W. Bush was a liberal and a failure.

      • GrafZeppelin127

They may think George W. Bush was a liberal and a failure, but they still don’t — can’t — blame him for 9/11.

  • muselet

If Jeb Bush were a nobody with no political ambitions, that might have been a heartfelt, if naive, defense of his brother. Jebbie is running for President, though (polling in single digits, mind, but he is running), and has surrounded himself with his brother’s advisers, so there must be some political calculation at play. For the life of me, I can’t figure out what that calculation might be.

Stupid thing to say. Truly, staggeringly stupid.

I’ll take a shot: “He Kept Us Safe” won the 2004 election.

  • Christopher Foxx

    He kept us safe.

“I mean, if you don’t count the 3000 who were killed in just the first 8 months of his watch.”

    • Karen Marie

Or the 3700 Americans who died in Iraq, or the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis — but, of course, they don’t count.

      • Christopher Foxx

Yeah, I though of them, too. I’d add to “kept us safe” every service member who died or was injured fighting Bush’s ludicrously unnecessary war.

  • Toolymegapoopoo

Give it time and the percentage of people who believe that 9/11 happened under Obama’s watch will be somewhere around 30%. We are just that stupid of a people.

  • Nefercat

They have used this statement for years and maybe they continue to use it because the media allows it. I remember Giuliani saying the exact same thing to George Stephanapoulos in an interview, and George just let it go without challenging him at all. Dana Perino got away with it too. Sure, people protested, but not the morons that were interviewing these liars.

Himself in the Nebraska Bunker, so
he could carry the fight to Saddam,
    that’s who!
