Rick Scott

Accidentally Deleted

The email accounts which Governor Rick Scott and his closest staff used to manage his transition to power have mysteriously vanished, drawing the ire of the ACLU of Florida.

Emails sent and received during Florida Gov. Rick Scott's (R) transition into the governor's mansion were accidentally deleted soon after he took office, the Miami Herald reports.

Scott's office acknowledged last week that the emails were inadvertently deleted. But it's not exactly clear how many emails were deleted, or how exactly it happened.

A private company managing the accounts deleted the emails as early as mid-January, the Herald reports. Chris Kise, an attorney who served on Scott's transition team, told the Herald that as many as 50 email accounts -- including Scott's -- were deleted. Deleting the emails was a mistake, he said. [...]

The emails, the Herald reports, covered everything from the governor's stationery to hiring decisions to a meeting with a state Supreme Court justice.

It was an accident! Honest! Nothing to see here! Governor Scott has simply joined the ranks of executives, whose members include the likes of George Bush and Dick Cheney, that have their emails mysteriously deleted.

By the way, what the fuck is a private company doing managing the email accounts of a future state executive? Emails which include meetings with Supreme Court justices and those who Scott intends to appoint to public office.

The state of Florida is currently facing a lawsuit over Governor Scott's plan to drug-test welfare recipients and state employees. None of those emails would have anything to do with those plans would they?
