Alabama Ends Planned Parenthood’s Medicaid Provider Contract Over Nothing

Written by SK Ashby

Following in the footsteps of Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has terminated the state's Medicaid provider contract with Planned Parenthood for no substantive reason.

"The deplorable practices at Planned Parenthood have been exposed to Americans, and I have decided to stop any association with the organization in Alabama," Bentley said.

"As a doctor and Alabama's governor, the issue of human life, from conception to birth and beyond, is extremely important. I respect human life and do not want Alabama to be associated with an organization that does not."

Governor Bentley "respects human life" which is why he's cutting the most vulnerable citizens off from potentially life-saving care for no substantive reason. That may also be why he has refused to expand Medicaid, but I digress.

The accusations against Planned Parenthood cannot be substantiated (because it never happened) and other states that have actually taken the time to investigate the accusations have found no evidence of wrongdoing.

Governors making these unilateral decisions based on rumors and fraudulent information are making an excellent case for federalizing all healthcare, effectively taking these decisions out of their hands. If we're lucky, that will happen in our lifetimes.
