Stupid Party, Stupid Media

Fox News apparently didn’t get the memo that the food stamps for pot story was completely fake. Or they wish they had thought of it first.

Despite lack of evidence and the failure of the bill, Fox News continued perpetuating the myth that SNAP recipients can use benefits to buy marijuana. The January 21 edition of Fox & Friends included on-screen text that read, “Food stamps for pot!” Another line of text claimed that the bill would “ban food stamps at pot shops.” [...]

Fox & Friends co-host Brian Kilmeade introduced the segment by asking, “Can people collecting food stamps in Colorado add marijuana to their shopping lists?” and answering,”Right now the answer is yes.”

No. The answer is no.

We talked about this here last week. Renowned genius Vicki “Minority Poverty is Caused by Fried Chicken” Marble (R) introduced a bill last week on behalf of her colleagues in the local Republican party after they read a piece of satire and took it as fact.

The Douglas County Republican Committee in Colorado read the fake news story “Colorado Pot Shop Accepting Food Stamps – Taxpayer Funded Marijuana for Welfare Recipients” published by the satirical National Report and then sprang into immediate action.

The idea that you can use your food stamps to buy Weed is fiction, and I don’t mean the Reince Priebus kind of fiction.

Vicki Marble’s bill would have banned the use of EBT cards at ATM machines located in pot shops. EBT cards can be used at ATM machines, but you cannot withdraw SNAP benefits (food stamps) as cash using an EBT card. There is no leap of logic that would confirm the Fox News story.

This is certifiable bullshit meant to perpetuate the idea that most people on food stamps are abusing their benefits.
