The bill passed by the state legislature last week that requires doctors to lie to women has now been signed into law by Governor Ducey.
Douchey issued a very short statement after he signed the bill into law and did not even address the most controversial aspect of it.
"The American people overwhelmingly oppose taxpayer funding of abortions, and it's no different in Arizona, where we have long-standing policy against subsidizing them with public dollars. This legislation provides clarity to state law."
Governor Ducey can pat himself on the back for signing a bill that prohibits something that is already prohibited by federal law, but he evidently could not bring himself to tout the requirement that doctors lie to their patient's faces.
The bill requires doctors to inform women that they can reverse a drug-induced abortion with an injection of progesterone, but the truth is they can't. The procedure is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but it is increasingly popular among anti-abortion activists who apparently believe that magical thinking can solve every problem.
It's seems unlikely to me that the state could ever hope to actually enforce the law and lawsuits against the state could begin to pile up.
The local president of Planned Parenthood has already indicated that their organization may challenge the law in court.
“We feel that this law enables experimentation upon our patients, quite frankly. I know our doctors are very upset about having to give this information that they don't think is correct that they wouldn't recommend,” said Jodi Liggett, Planned Parenthood.

Bryan Howard, president of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, said the bill's signing again put Arizona in a bad light for "interfering in the medical decisions of women," and vowed to keep opposing the law through "all of our options, including litigation."
It is entirely possible that taxpayers in Arizona will soon find themselves paying for a legal defense of a law that is based on a blatant lie.
