Unhinged History: Colorado Critics Face Recall Elections

Written by SK Ashby

Last year, as Advanced Placement U.S. History Hysteria gripped the wingnutosphere, a group of school board members in the Denver, Colorado area proposed making changes to school curriculum to remove the "anti-American" AP history standards.

Their proposal was universally condemned by parents, teachers, and even students who protested against the idea.

Those members of the school board who sought to censor the curriculum are now facing recalls.

GOLDEN — Organizers in Jefferson County on Tuesday turned in more than double the signatures needed on petitions to order a recall election on three school board members in the second-largest school district in the state. [...]

The three board members are being criticized for many of the changes they've implemented since they were elected in November 2013, including their highly publicized attempts to censor U.S. history classes, violating open meeting laws and claims the board "wasted millions of taxpayer dollars," on legal expenses and on a high salary for the new superintendent.

Petitioners were required to collect at least 15,000 signatures for each member of the board, but they were able to acquire as many as 37,000 signatures each.

The contingent of self-styled patriots who believe we should censor negative events in our history to create a more rosy picture of America are going to shit their pants.

Never forget:

CARSON: A whole section on slavery and how evil we are. A whole section on Japanese internment camps and how we slaughtered millions of Japanese with our bombs. A whole section on how we wiped out American Indians with no mercy.

I mean I think most people, when they finished that course, they'd be ready to go sign up for ISIS. This is what we're doing to the young people in our nation. And we have got to stop this silliness.
