Conspiracy Theory

Rarely is the question asked — is our children learning the government buying up ammunition to use against us?

Fortunately we can depend on Fox News host Megyn Kelly to ask upstanding congressmen that very question.

MEGYN KELLY: Is the government buying up bullets to use against us? Are you one of those who believes that?

LAMALFA: Well, that might be reaching a little far at this point. We’ve asked the questions of DHS. What is the reasoning behind doing this? And when you talk to your constituents out there across my area and across the whole country there is an extreme shortage of ammunition as it is now. And when they hear a story like this, is this what’s contributing to us not being able to get ammunition for our sporting or protection or what have you. And we’ve asked questions of DHS what are your procurement standards here and why are you doing it this way and we’re hearing well, it’s over a five-year period and buying it in bulk, okay. We might be able to appreciate that, but it is a heck of a lot of rounds of ammunition and for some very dubious-sounding reasons.

Do a majority of Americans disagree with the government buying up ammunition to use against us? Lets ask Gallup.

This idea seems just as plausible as droning you at Starbucks. Which is to say not at all. And as ThinkProgress points out, this was already debunked on Fox News.

We’re all used to Fox News asking the important questions since no one else will, but I want to highlight how easily comparable this strain of logic is to the idea that the government was ever planning to use armed predator drones domestically.

You can hold government accountable without resorting to scaremongering that results in a run on guns.
