Many Nader voters learned their lesson and are now embarrassed by that vote. Bob is one of them.
Second chances are a good thing.

As a US Senator, he can do that. He can also commit hari kari if he wishes. Our job, assuming he follows through with his threat, is to call him out loud and clear on every fucking move he and those like him make. At the very least this time, perhaps they’ll be shown to be the clear proximate cause of the economic crash that results from failing to raise the debt ceiling (like they did 10 TIMES during the Bush Administrations).

Ed – The president and the Democrats have actually CUT the deficit from the final Bush budget. $122 billion in the first year alone (FY2010 budget). Plus, if they do absolutely nothing beginning right now, the deficit will disappear by 2012. Adding… The Bush tax cuts along with war spending and the economic impact of the recession are the biggest factors in that deficit figure you cited. Blaming the Democrats for the deficit is laughable.

Once, when I was much younger, my Mom baked a pie. A beautiful apple cranberry pie with a lattice top. When the pie came out of the oven, it was bubbling and golden brown and the smell filled the house. I told my Mom, “Thanks for baking me that pie. I’m gonna eat the whole thing right now.” My Mom replied, “That pie is for everyone, and everyone will have a slice.” I flew into a rage, insisting that I get the whole pie and that a slice of pie wasn’t enough and that everyone else didn’t deserve any of my pie. I kicked and screamed, and stomped around the kitchen. While flailing around in my tantrum, I knocked the pie off the table, breaking Mom’s favorite pie plate.

We never had pie again.
