I don't know why the McCain campaign and their barbeque-slathered friends in the corporate media are shocked by Phil Gramm's "nation of whiners" remarks. We've known for a while that Gramm was a lobbyist for UBS -- urging Congress to ignore predatory lending practices.
So financials like UBS have crippled our economy and when we seek accountability, Gramm says we're whiners. We'll see who's whining when some of these CEOs are indicted.
(By the way, the "Dr. Phil" joke is Senator Obama's. Naturally Senator McCain's too-funny response was to call Senator Obama "Dr. No." HOO-HOO! Zinger!)
