Fox News Is Not Embarassed, Continued…

Like me, you probably didn't watch the Hannity special exposing bias in media -- a concept similar to, say, Ronald McDonald hosting a special about the dangers of addictive fast food. But here's an example of what you missed.

Hannity ran the following scathingly liberal opening line from Katie Couric:

KATIE COURIC: Good morning. The Gipper was an airhead. [Fox News, Hannity, 4/22/11]

Oh shit! Couric opened a segment by calling Ronald Reagan an airhead -- a totally random and totally biased ad hominem attack on a beloved former president. Plus, she's kind of making fun of Alzheimer's victims. Katie! BAD!

But wait. Here's the full quote that Hannity didn't play.

KATIE COURIC, co-host: Good morning. The Gipper was an airhead. That's one of the conclusions of a new biography of Ronald Reagan that's drawing a tremendous amount of interest and fire today, Monday, September the 27th, 1999.

Of course this completely changes what Couric was saying. But Hannity would rather deliberately deceive his audience. Worse yet, he's fueling his audience with false information -- lies -- that they'll subsequently take out into the world themselves, thus making them look really, really stupid.

And yes, the rest of the special was filled with more egregiously doctored quotes, as documented by Media Matters
