Future Trump Slogan Already Claimed by Dystopian Cinema

Written by SK Ashby

If a comedian told this joke you might say it's a little too on the nose, but this is real life.

Despot-elect Donald Trump participated in an interview with the Washington Post where he loudly exclaimed that his next campaign slogan will be "Keep America Great," but that slogan is apparently already taken.

As Proma Khosla at Mashable points out, dystopian horror movie The Purge: Election Year already used "Keep America Great."

Before its release, writer James DeMonaco told Entertainment Weekly that parallels between the film and the 2016 election were not accidental. At the time the "Keep America Great" tagline was a direct response to Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan. Time is a flat circle.

"Oddly enough, the guy who plays the President in the movie, he plays him like Trump — totally by accident," actor Frank Grillo told Comicbook.com in 2016.

Hopefully this won't turn out to be a case of life imitating art, but I'm not the most optimistic person these days.

With that said, I'm skeptical that Trump will actually make it through the next four years and have an opportunity to use another stupid slogan. Push is going to come to shove and, at some point, he's going to have to chose between the United States and Russia. How will he respond when Russia invades another neighbor? Will he lift sanctions? We're going to find out sooner rather than later.
