If Knowing What We Know Now™ means knowing that Obama would become president, George W. Bush may not have invaded Iraq.
That's the message from infamous lunatic Louie Gohmert who said during an interview with Virginia talk radio host John Fredericks that President Obama is clearly fighting for the wrong side.
Furthermore, Gohmert said he is against passing a new Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) because the Obama administration might use it to help our enemies.
“I don’t trust this administration, I don’t want to give them any additional authority that Bush didn’t have,” he said.
“So, thank you very much, Mr. Kaine, but you need to tell your buddy in the Democratic Party to actually start fighting our enemies and quit helping our enemies and help our friends instead and quit worrying about a new AUMF,” Gohmert added. “He would be able to defeat ISIS if he just starts helping our friends and stops helping the enemies.” [...]
“That AUMF, it’s a red herring, it’s a crock,” he continued. “The problem is the president’s on the wrong side. That’s the real problem.”
Aside from suggesting that the president is secretly in cahoots with ISIS, there's a few other obvious indicators that Gohmert has no fucking idea what he's talking about.
In addition to the fact that he is Louie Gohmert, he alleges that the president is helping our enemies rather than helping our friends, however American forces directed by the president have been supplying and supporting regional partners for many months in their fight against ISIS. American forces have also directed and participated in a countless number of direct assaults on ISIS. American special forces recently swept into Syria and killed the head of ISIS in Syria.
Gohmert receives no points for originally. Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) beat him to the punch several months ago when he said the president might use an AUMF to help ISIS. Never mind that that's not actually possible and is completely stupid.
Like many people I derive a certain amount of Schadenfreude from watching Gohmert make a complete ass of himself, but this is ugly, racist bile. At any moment I expect the president's critics to stroke out from pure hatred.
There is absolutely no evidence to suggest the president is the Manchurian candidate Republicans have been warning us about for six years. All you're left with is his color of skin.
