GOP Senator: Graham-Cassidy is Horrible But I’m Voting For It

Written by SK Ashby

Will Republicans vote to kick 32 million people off their health care and bankrupt or kill them next week?

I don't know. Right now it looks like they're still 1 or 2 votes short, but we do know Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) will be voting for the Graham-Cassidy deathcare bill.

Why will he vote it? Well, the Des Moines Register asked Grassley that question and this is what he had to say:

“You know, I could maybe give you 10 reasons why this bill shouldn’t be considered,” Grassley said. “But Republicans campaigned on this so often that you have a responsibility to carry out what you said in the campaign. That’s pretty much as much of a reason as the substance of the bill.

No

No, a vague promise to do something your own voters don't actually want is not more important the substance of legislation that will dramatically reorganize a fifth of our entire economy and jeopardize the lives of millions of people.

Moreover, it's not as if Republicans promised to kick people off their health care and bring back pre-existing conditions. They didn't. They promised "repeal and replace," but they've left out the "replace" part. Graham-Cassidy isn't actually what they campaigned on. There is no replacement.

I think you'd have to be some kind of lizard to even think this way. It's about as flippant as it gets and a demonstration that they don't take any of this seriously. This is all a joke to them; a vanity project.
