In other news, Facebook and Instagram and banned Trump from their platforms until he's out office. I expect he'll be permanently banned once he's out office, too, because he's never going to stop.

Meanwhile, another 790,000 people filed new claims for unemployment last week or 1.08 million including gig workers covered by the federal program. Permanent layoffs hit a record record 2.305 million in 2020.

Finally, the CDC is now officially projecting that our daily coronavirus death toll will remain high through at least the end of this month.

The U.S. will end January averaging about 2,600 deaths a day, according to the latest forecast updated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Wednesday, a figure based on projections from 36 different models.

Cumulatively, the U.S. is expected to surpass 400,000 deaths around the time that Joe Biden is inaugurated as president on Jan. 20. It will hit 420,908 by Jan. 30, the farthest date in the projection, according to the CDC model.

It's hard to see any reason why the numbers would dramatically shrink beyond the 30th. Biden will take office before then, but he can't snap his fingers to make it magically disappear. Reality being what it is, deaths may be high for a couple more months.
