Greg Abbott: Conspiracy Theorists Have a Point

According to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, if people believe that the Obama administration is preparing to usurp total control of Texas by tunneling under local Wal-Marts, it's probably Obama's fault.

“I think the cause of the underlying concerns is that we see instances, like a shooting in Fort Hood by a terrorist, that the president labels workplace violence," Abbott said, as quoted by the news station. "We see the president come to the border in Texas and say it’s safer than it’s ever been. And so I think it was a misplaced perception by people in Texas who have problems with the Obama administration and connected that trust with the Obama administration to the military.”

The Fort Hood shooter was a fellow service member and the border actually is more tighter controlled today than it's ever been.

There's no there, there.

Fellow Texan Ted Cruz offered a similar justification for keeping two eyes pealed on the United States military.

"I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens don’t trust what it is saying."

We've reached a point where conspiracy theories have gone mainstream, and these mainstream conspiracy theorists cite the existence of other conspiracy theories as proof that their new theory has some factual basis. It's a self-sustaining particle accelerator of dumb.

I do wonder what the long-term consequences of this will be.
