In other news, only 18 percent of Americans believe Trump's claim that his decision to pull out of the Paris climate accord will help the economy according to a new AP poll. 52 percent say it may hurt the economy.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has now hired his own lawyer to deal with the Russian influence investigation.

Finally, Buzzfeed has posted more entries from their amazing investigation of Russian assassinations in Britain. See here and here.

A British spy whose naked body was found decomposing in a padlocked sports bag in his bathtub is among at least 14 people suspected of having been killed by Russian assassins on British soil, BuzzFeed News can reveal.

Police declared the death of Gareth Williams “probably an accident” – but British intelligence agencies have been secretly communicating with their American counterparts about suspicions that the spy was executed by Russian assassins, four US intelligence officials told BuzzFeed News.

How??

So he “accidentally” got locked into a sports bag? Is this some sort of inverted Houdini trick?

    • Toolymegapoopoo

I thought the official explanation was that he was into some pretty kinky stuff and this was a normal way for him to get off. I thought it was bizarre right from the beginning but why would the British authorities concoct such a strange story if they thought it was murder? Occam applies here.

    • Scopedog

Well, just like that guy who “accidentally” threw himself down a flight of stairs, or the guy who “accidentally” stabbed himself multiple times with two knives…..

      • And the guy who had a bullet induced heart attack in the back seat of his car.

Do you think Malcolm Nancy is getting tired of describing a SMERSH operation?

    • The truth is that if they declared it murder, they would have to acknowledge the lead suspect, which would be Russian spies and that would lead to a pattern that the British people would notice. And all of that would start to look like open acts of war, which Britain does not want to deal with. Spies die all the time…it’s part of the business. However, when they start dropping like flies and all killed from a single enemy country…..it’s definitely an escalation of sorts. But Putin is betting that they will turn a blind eye to it for now. In fact, he’s betting no one in the world will stand up to him and he’s basically right. So he’s going to keep pushing boundaries with every country who stands in his way EXCEPT for China. I wager he won’t poke that sleeping giant.

I can respect that conclusion. Still, why not say “inconclusive” or “unknown” and be more circumspect about it? Of course, I don’t know all of the details either…

        • Well from a homicide detective’s perspective, that would remain on his/her stats as unsolved forever. They don’t like that…so they close it, even if it’s not really closed. I’m sure that happens in the deaths of spies all the time….the local police need resolution (rightly or wrongly).

Russia has clearly emerged as one of the greatest threats to Democracy on the world stage and to America and the Party of Reagan©®™ is either whistling past the graveyard or in some cases (such as Rep. Dana Roarbacher) openly aiding and abetting this assault.

As shocking as that may seem and galling as it is, this is a political party that has mortgaged itself out to twenty years of Fox News and thirty years of Rush Limbaugh. With that in mind, one should hardly be surprised.

    • Scopedog

      True.

But don’t forget those on the alt-Left who are ignoring the threat Russia poses–from Jill Stein to Matt Taibbi to Glenn Greenwald and some at The Nation magazine.
