House Republicans Will Have to Vote Again After Rushing Obamacare Repeal

Written by SK Ashby

House Republicans declared victory after voting to repeal Obamacare and cut taxes for the rich by cutting Medicaid by over $800 billion, but they might have to vote for it again.

The bill passed by the House has not been transferred to the Senate because the bill they passed may violate Senate reconciliation rules.

House Speaker Paul Ryan hasn’t yet sent the bill to the Senate because there’s a chance that parts of it may need to be redone, depending on how the Congressional Budget Office estimates its effects. House leaders want to make sure the bill conforms with Senate rules for reconciliation, a mechanism that allows Senate Republicans to pass the bill with a simple majority.

Republicans had rushed to vote on the health bill so the Senate could get a quick start on it, even before the CBO had finished analyzing a series of last-minute changes.

Let's all take a moment to marvel at how big of a fuck up Paul Ryan is.

Ryan pushed his members to vote on the bill before the CBO could score it, but they have to wait for a CBO score anyway. And he will ask them to vote for it again after the CBO reveals the apocalyptic consequences of it. And, politically speaking, it won't matter if a handful of House Republicans walk back their support of the bill after the CBO scores it because they already voted for it.

House Republicans could have simply waited, but they wanted a quick "victory" to mark the 7th anniversary of Obamacare and Trump's first 100 days in office.

Everyone who works with Trump is eventually humiliated.
